Job Summary:

The Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates overall marketing objectives for Cowley College to promote community awareness. This position ensures that all departmental marketing objectives align with the overall college marketing plan and goals.

Position Duties:

Responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring the success of comprehensive marketing plans that will enhance Cowley College's image and position in the marketplace.

Responsible for editorial direction, design, production, and distribution of all college publications.

Ability to utilize various social media platforms to market college and Cowley College Foundation initiatives while aligning social media strategy to institutional policy and procedure.

Responsible for ensuring the consistency of the Cowley College and Tiger Athletics brand using standards outlined in the branding guide.

Coordinate with academic departments and appropriate faculty to create and maintain marketing and promotion materials for academic programs.

Ensure Cowley College regularly conducts relevant marketing analysis and monitors marketing trends.

Responsible for maintaining and monitoring the marketing budget and determining appropriate expenditures in accordance with marketing plans.

Responsible for creating, leading, and maintaining a marketing advisory committee comprised of appropriate stakeholders such as staff, faculty, students, and community members.

Works with the Admission office to develop recruitment publications, e-communications, and other marketing strategies for prospective students.

Works with the Cowley College Foundation, Tiger Booster Club, and other Student Clubs to develop fundraising solicitations, e-communications, and other marketing strategies for alumni, parents, and friends of the College.

Champion the prospect management portion of the customer relationship management tool (CRM) named Anthology to optimize the pre-applicant marketing and communication strategies within the institutional marketing technology stack.

Maintain courteous, professional, and effective working relationships with employees, vendors, and/or any other representatives or external organizations.

Direct supervision of Creative Media Producer and Webmaster employees in addition to two students on full-ride scholarships, work-study, freelance assistants, and approved vendor partners.

Supervises the Integrated Communication strategist who executes institutional media relations, crisis communications, reputation management, and stakeholder engagement tasks.

Serves as the main point of contact for all inbound media-related requests and follows up when appropriate action is necessary.

Leads the departmental Project Management process to efficiently meet internal and external marketing and strategic communications objectives and deadlines.

Responsible for the overall creative direction of all content development, which includes necessary market research, and leads the final editorial review process.

Engage on Strategic Planning and Enrollment Management Planning project teams to align with marketing strategies.

Assist with on and off-campus community outreach, event planning/promotional efforts.

Attend crucial meetings pertaining to college business that may occur outside of office hours.

Monitor and approve the use of institutionally owned media assets and community partner relationships.

Manages the overall branding, strategy, adoption, and effectiveness of the marketing technology stack which includes but is not limited to the college mobile application and multiple content management software.

Comply with all College policies and procedures.

Collaborates with Tiger Athletics and other key departments on communications initiatives.

Assist the Director of Student Enrollment & Success by performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of marketing theories and practices.

Knowledge of various social and other media resources and the ability to develop relationships with these resources.

Strategic planning and project management ability.

Knowledge in brand creation and management, print production, and web integration.

Knowledge of media buying and placement, and advertising.

Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.

Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

Good communication skills, both written and oral.

Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures.

Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement initiatives.

Required Education Background:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred.

Required Experience:

Experience developing, implementing, and tracking successful marketing strategies.

5 years of professional experience in marketing and communications. Experience in higher education is preferred.

Strong working knowledge of the latest web development, publications, e-communications, branding, and market research techniques and practices.

Broad knowledge of all facets of higher education marketing and communications is preferred.

Supervisory Requirements:

Exempt and Non-exempt team members.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 20 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive a motor vehicle; and ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.

Work Environment:

Majority of work performed in an office environment. Some work will be performed off-campus.
