The Engineer plans for and helps implement the most cost effective utilization of materials; applies knowledge of material and metallurgical science to recommend engineering and manufacturing changes to attain design objectives in the most economical manner possible; reviews blue prints and specifications to determine the appropriate materials needed to achieve successful completion of initiatives; analyzes field failures to determine cause of failure and provides technical reports of the findings to product support; conducts microscopic and other analysis as needed; and has a working knowledge of x-ray and x-ray diffraction analysis.

What Will You Do?In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:

Analyze field failures in welded and machined parts to determine cause of failure. Recommend changes to design engineering and/or manufacturing to prevent failure and extend the life of the part. Produce detailed reports on findings.

Analyze current manufacturing practices to determine improvements as appropriate.

Evaluate current welding processes and determine improvements.

Assist design engineering with recommendations for alternative material usages and cost effective improvements.

Analyze materials to ensure they are appropriate for the application.

Work with sourcing to insure that incoming materials meet specifications and provide assistance for determining alternate materials. Assist sourcing with qualifying material suppliers.

Analyze results of heat treating processes to ensure they meet design intent and make recommendations for change or improvement based on analysis.

Responsible for determining the equipment and processes needed when new materials or processing methods are introduced.

Operate equipment in Metallurgical Lab in a safe manner and insure it is maintained properly.

Have excellent communications skills to provide report writing, project presentation, and verbal presentations to all levels of authority within the organization and also with outside sources as appropriate.

Work well in various team environments and with individual peers and customers.

Meet or exceed typical expectations for creativity, quality, and safety.

Perform other duties as assigned.

What Do You Need?To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Material Science Engineering.

Engineer II-2-4 years experience in Metallurgy and Failure

Engineer III-5-7 years experience in Metallurgy and Failure

Engineer IV-7+ years of experience in Metallurgy and Failure
