Platforms & Software (P&S)
The Platformsand Software (P&S)division maintains a centre of excellence for technology and broader infrastructure-related innovation, translating market needs into core expansion programmes to enable market development. We ensure that products and services are constantly pushing the boundaries of satellite communications. The P&S team is responsible for delivering development programmes, including satellites and launchers, ground infrastructure (ground stations, networks, user terminals and access technology), regulatory, market access and product and service development.
Job Description
Primary role purpose:
Viasat’s Platforms and Software department is looking for a software Developer to join its Provisioning Systems team, which is based Lausanne and Seattle.
The successful candidate will become the third team member of the Provisioning Systems team, developing, maintaining and otherwise supporting automated systems that help connect aircraft and ocean vessels with Viasat's fleet of space communication satellites, ground stations, and communication networks and infrastructure. The Provisioning Systems team is navigating increased requirements and scope on the automated provisioning systems as two large satellite communications companies merge and leverage best practices. This team works closely with other global teams who develop and maintain the systems which are automated and coordinated through the Provisioning Systems team’s software, primarily interfacing through the Director of Provisioning Systems.
Qualifications
Essential Knowledge and Skills:Understand software written in Ruby, typescript and javascript, built and deployed on multi-node, globally distributed Linux virtual hostsExperience with Ruby on Rails, javascript and Angular frameworksExperience performing similar software coding workWork in person 2-3 times a week in Viasat's Seattle office, and otherwise remotelyPossess strong communication and teamwork skillsWork well with a small team in the U.S. Pacific and Europe time zones, in person and remotely, to:
understand bug and feature descriptionslearn and leverage team knowledge of system architecture, design, and past decision reasoning, as neededimplement features and bug fixes in the codework often with a test-driven development approachupdate and maintain a comprehensive regression test suitereview code written by other team membersincorporate feedback from other team membershelp test and validate code changes written by other team membersparticipate in design discussions about possible solutions to new system requirements and goalswork at times in coordination with other team members and at times solohelp document the systems and communicate about them with the larger company workforceprovide sporadic technical support on provisioning systems to operations staff at times under time pressure
Postgresql, Groovy, Redis, Lua, Jenkins, Python, Java, Nodejs, Docker, RPM, and bash scripting are all helpful
