About the Position:
The Sheriff's Detentions Captain recruitment is a career progression and management opportunity for current Sheriff's Detentions Lieutenants or Sheriff's Lieutenants on the San Diego Sheriff's Department force. The role of the Sheriff's Detentions Captain is significant in that they are responsible for managing a detention facility within the Sheriff's Department. Incumbents are assigned overall responsibility for the operation of a Sheriff's detention facility and supervise subordinate supervisors. Required Education and Experience:
- Two (2) years experience as a Sheriff's Detentions Lieutenant or Sheriff's Lieutenant, AND;
- Successful completion of required California P.O.S.T. Management Course or California BSCC-STC Management Course.

- Individuals must meet the requirements of lower-level classifications in this series.
- Positions in this classification are Peace Officers as defined in Section 830 of the California Penal Code, and must meet employment guidelines and standards established by the Commission for Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST); the provisions of Sections 1029 and 1031 of the California Government Code; and the Standards and Training for Corrections (STC), Selection and Training Standards, as contained in Title 15, Sections 100 358, California Code of Regulations. Applicants must be 21 years of age by the time of appointment. A valid Proof of Eligibility in good standing issued by Police Officer Standard Training (POST) and ability to carry a firearm are required and must be maintained throughout your employment as a Sheriff's Captain - Detention with the San Diego Sheriff's Office.
Conditions of Employment:
As part of the County of San Diegos pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.
Evaluation:
Qualified applicants will be placed on a twelve (12) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained on their employment and supplemental applications.
