The Group Facilitator ensures that group work in the agency’s abuse intervention programs is aligned with the programs’ philosophy and that program participants receive the program’s full curriculum. Group Facilitators work with the Bilingual Facilitator Supervisor to ensure the goals, objectives, and work efforts of the program are consistent with the mission of the House of Ruth Maryland and advance the agency and programs’ strategic goals and objectives. The Group Facilitator works with the Bilingual Facilitator Supervisor to advance the development of services for Spanish-speaking participants and their families. Group Facilitators lead the program’s orientation sessions and conduct bio-psycho-social intake assessments with new participants. The Group Facilitator also assists with special projects such as curriculum development, training, and community outreach, as well as, provides backup coverage for other Facilitators on an as-needed basis .
The Group Facilitator will facilitate psycho-educational group sessions with Spanish-speaking participants at House of Ruth Maryland’s Highlandtown location and with English-speaking participants at House of Ruth Maryland’s Community Engagement Center. Groups will be virtual and in-person. This position is responsible for contacting current and former partners of program participants at the direction of the Partner Engagement Coordinator. The Group Facilitator will work with the Partner Engagement Coordinator to develop innovative techniques and approaches to increase the program’s success in reaching victims/partners. Help end intimate partner violence by addressing it at its source in House of Ruth Maryland’s abuse intervention program. The House of Ruth Maryland abuse intervention program works with Latino men and women who have been abusive toward an intimate partner. Be part of a dynamic and dedicated team of professionals who are implementing a research-supported program model. This Facilitator position would assist with six groups per week. This is a great opportunity for a human service professional to sharpen their group facilitation skills and learn to effectively engage Baltimore’s Latino population.
This position is full-time, 40 hours per week position. The schedule is Monday 10:00 am - 8:00 pm, Tuesday 12:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Wednesday 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and Thursday 10:00 am - 8:00 pm
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Applicant must be fluent in both Spanish and English speaking, reading and writing. Conduct partner contact activities, including written and phone communications. Recruit and train student interns. Facilitate psycho-educational group sessions (Spanish and English) and provides backup coverage as required in accordance with the program’s curriculum and design. Groups will be virtual and in-person. Conduct one-on-one sessions with participants as needed. Conduct virtual and in-person bio-psycho-social intake assessments and orientation sessions. Communicate with Parole & Probation supervision agents regarding participant progress and status. Develop collaborative relationships with community partners and the general public. Maintain electronic and paper file documentation for groups and participants in keeping with program standards. Address issues with participants individually, including fee assessments, conflicts, referrals for additional services, and assessment of appropriateness to continue in the program. Collect, process, and document fees and attendance in accordance with program policy. Attend and participate in regular staff meetings. Is involved in program development activities, including group curriculum design, procedure development and implementation, and creation of new program initiatives. Provide community education and training on intimate partner violence and agency services. On an as-needed basis, is available by phone for crisis counseling. Must work some evenings to provide group coverage. Recruit Partner Engagement volunteers Supervise, assign work to and evaluate the efforts of volunteers and interns Establish, adjust, and collect participant fees. Make recommendations regarding participant program status. Represent the program and the agency in the community. Meets program standards, and quality and service targets. Pay: $17 - $28 an hour
Experience, Education, Certifications/Licenses
Bachelor’s degree in a human service field and a demonstrated ability to read, write, translate, and speak fluent Spanish and English are required. Candidates with experience facilitating curriculum-based groups are preferred. Must be violence-free in own life. Minimum 1 year experience facilitating curriculum-based groups. Experience working in the criminal justice system and with marginalized or oppressed groups is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Client assessment, group work, project planning, and conflict management skills are required. Computer literate (MS Office, internet, e-mail) and experience working within a data tracking system are necessary. Applicants must be able to confidently work with a population that has a history of violent and criminal behaviors. The ability to understand intimate partner violence and how it affects the participant population and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds are a must. Must be violence-free in own life with no charges of violence within a minimum of three years. If the applicant has ever been identified as a perpetrator of domestic violence the applicant must have successfully completed a certified abuser intervention program.
