Overview
Accountable for profit and growth of the Casualty portfolio. Work with the Casualty Line of Business manager to manage and identify line of business strategies to appropriately manage the portfolio. Implement these strategies to the field in a clear, concise and executable manner to ensure proper field execution. Work with the Casualty Line of Business Manager to monitor and manage the portfolio to ensure growth in the segments that have margin. Similarly, manage cohorts where growth needs to be constrained, and portfolio improvement is required. Partner with Industry Practice Leaders to develop executable strategies to drive growth and profitability. Work closely with field underwriters, Commercial Insurance managers, and territory underwriting managers on referrals to ensure proper terms, conditions, risk selection and pricing are adhered to. Work in a team environment with Industry Practice Managers, Technology, Claims, General Counsel, Actuarial, and field underwriting to achieve business plans
Portfolio Management:
Oversee Casualty product line portfolio management, including claim trend analysis, to utilize data to drive strategies and underwriting rules. Manage the portfolio analysts who are responsible for portfolio management work. Required to identify additional areas of portfolio review for constant/consistent portfolio optimization. Based on the portfolio analysis, work with the Casualty Line of Business manager to implement changes to strategies, pricing, guidelines and underwriting rules. Oversee product pricing, including pricing models.
Responsible for working to identify external data and tools that are useful in pricing and analytical analysis of profitability. Work closely with actuarial and analytics resources to consistently improve pricing segmentation and implementation. Engage with Claims to ensure that data capture, definitions and accessibility are optimized to enable best/fastest insights into loss cost details and trends for consumption by business units to inform pricing and underwriting changes. Collaborate with technology management in project prioritization and planning to understand future resource needs.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment to achieve strategic business objectives. Track record of managing a profitable portfolio. Ability to demonstrate portfolio actions that were developed to maintain and grow profitably. Advanced skills in portfolio analysis. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to analyze and identify areas for concern and improvement via data analysis. Additionally, candidate must have experience in implementing action steps to improve identified vulnerabilities. Ability to think strategically and develop strategies to address current and future exposure. Strong interpersonal, analytical and negotiation skills. Candidates must be detail-orientated with advanced influence management and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners and be able to multi-task and balance multiple priorities Education and Experience: Proven leader in the insurance industry with a minimum of 10 years of technical underwriting experience in Casualty. Advanced experience in pricing model development and deployment. Advanced skillset in managing rate, state filings, and segmented pricing models with actuarial and analytics supported resources. Experience working with third party data vendors. The pay range for the role is $200,000 to $250,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program.
