With a portfolio of brands including Samsonite, Tumi, American Tourister, High Sierra, Gregory, eBags, Hartmann, and Lipault Paris, our products are sold in over 100 countries in North America, Asia, Europe and Latin America through our company-operated retail store, websites and a variety of retail partners.Your role at Samsonite:The Designer II role is an integral member leading the design and development of a variety of backpacks, business bags, lifestyle bags, related products and accessories. Responsible for assigned brand, category or product line. Manages resource allocation and provides design leadership for products within the assigned product category.
You will work on-site 4 days per week with the opportunity to work remotely one day per week.Conceptualizes and develops innovative, brand enhancing products based on marketing briefs or design direction.Analyze and research how new products tie in with market trends / needs and consumer preferences. Present concept direction to the Design management, and the Product and Marketing teams for strategic alignment.Manage multiple project timelines for the product design processCreate and refine working prototypes to ensure any newly developed design features function as intended.Responsible for the creation of effective technical documents sent overseas to create accurate prototypes. The design package should be clear, understandable, and comprehensive which can be interpreted by an overseas vendor and translated into an accurate, functional prototype.Work collaboratively with other design staff and product developers on specs, prototype samples, timelines, pricing, packaging, compliance, and sourcing.Communicate directly with international vendors and our global product development team to oversee product development of assigned projects.Understand and interpret market trends, retailer trends and gain knowledge of competitor products.Travel to industry trade shows, overseas development trips and buyer presentations.Ability to evaluate product testing to improve its functionality, style, quality, and success in the marketplace.Inform management of all challenges and problems; recommending possible actions that could correct the issue.We're excited if you have:Degree in Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Apparel Design or related creative professional experience4+ years of design experience in a related categoryStrong knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office softwarePortfolio demonstrating strong aesthetic sensibilities, commercially proven body of work, and successfully developed productsDemonstrated ability to communicate through sketches, renderings and presentations.Experienced in Softgoods/Backpack design and construction.Comprehensive understanding of fashion trends, product construction, market trends, competitive set-in relation to men’s and women’s luggageExceptional level of detail maintaining the product development architecture and line plan, maintain alignment with all key internal partners throughout the development process and product life cycleStrong organizational skills and ability to manage and drive multiple projects while hitting key timelines and deadlines throughout the development to commercialization process
