About Innovation and Digital Partnerships

The Innovation and Global Digital Partnerships organization leads the development and commercialization of Visa products and solutions for Big Tech, Fintech and Platform partnerships as well as our global network of Innovation Centers. Our Digital and Regional partnerships teams drive engagement, solutions and growth with our global tech partners and develop and deliver our business development approach across our Fintech segments, as well as drive scope and scale of activities, including Big Tech deployments to local platform expansion, across multiple regions.  This organization also aligns our commercial partnership activities with platform activation – an important step in accelerating Visa’s revenue growth. The Global Digital Partnerships organization is also critical in elevating and commercializing Visa’s rapidly growing digital currency and crypto capabilities, as well as defining the next phase of Innovation for Visa.

Job Description

The Head of NA and Global Fintech BD will work directly with Visa’s SVP, Head of Innovation and Global Digital Partnerships and engage internal and external partners to drive revenue and ensure that the most important client and prospect deals are recognized, implemented and convert to revenue. This leader will build relationships that create value for the new stack in payments and develop an innovative framework for selling value added services to global and North America Fintechs.  A focus on identifying and synthesizing factors that influence the payments landscape, including new behaviors, new stores of value, new frameworks for money movement, and new transaction environments will be critical. A passion for and curiosity about what the future might hold will help this leader to cover existing segments (e.g., banking as a service, social, neobanks, crytpo) as well as uncover new ones (e.g., other areas of embedded finance).

This is a matrixed, cross-functional role so organizational savvy and interpersonal skills are a must, as the team will interface with specialized product groups, financial institution sales, merchant and acquiring sales, client consulting, marketing and corporate communications, legal, and finance to coordinate the end goal of achieving aspirational objectives. This role will play a significant part on the Innovation and Global Digital Partnerships Leadership team and will frequently interface with the members of the Product Leadership team, the head of NA, and occasionally with members of the Executive Committee and other senior leaders.

Specific skills desired include-

  • Build relationships that create value for the new stack in payments
  • Develop an innovative framework for selling value added services to global and North America Fintechs that factors in a view on the evolving payments landscape and the resulting economics
  • Continuously review market landscape, identifying commercial deal opportunities across partners, start-ups and emerging players that will position Visa as a world-class market leader
  • Structure, negotiate, and execute deals and work across the organization to ensure alignment with product offerings and pricing, and with Legal to reflect agreed business terms
  • Penetrate new fintech partnerships that build relationships and create opportunities and drive C-Suite engagement to drive step function growth
  • Lead the deal pipeline for new fintech partners and venture activities
  • Establish targets and goals for team members in a direct line and matrix environment
  • Solution / recommend, develop, and implement new and creative approaches to grow clients’ businesses
  • Lead the development, negotiation and signing of deal proposals by working with various internal stakeholders and relationships with strategic partner executives
  • Identify, structure, close and manage strategic partnerships, alliances, programmatic fintech deals.
  • Draw upon experience in business development and payments to identify potential deals, develop the tactics and manage the teams, process and programs needed to bring them to fruition
  • Identify and drive use cases to diversify revenue concentration, and build and launch best practices for approach to global deals and account management.
  • Continuously assess strategic talent needs and lead initiatives to evolve structure in the organization to support business strategy more effectively
  • Synthesize findings from across various clients and sub-sectors to develop a thesis on the future of money movement that can inform fintech BD strategy, product development, and larger conversations on industry evolution

• 15 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 12 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA/ JD/MD) or a minimum of 10 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualification-
• 18 or more years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD, PhD)
• Fluency in Fintech, specifically the approach to selling to Fintechs, understanding the costs to acquire customers, run rate, having conversations with entrepreneurs
• Fluency in new tech including CBDCs and Crypto
• Experienced business development professional and financial services/technology sector expert who can identify potential deals, develop the tactics and manage the teams, process and programs needed to bring them to fruition
• Should be an excellent, creative thinker and problem solver
• Demonstrated skill in gaining credibility with and respect of high-performing leaders within and outside the organization
• High levels of learning agility with a real interest in the fintech ecosystem and a ‘technology / digital-first’ approach
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong focus on delivering for clients
• Excellent listening and communication skills (both verbal and written), and executive presence, must be able to interface with our most senior client executives
• Ability to explain complex business and technical concepts to broad audiences in an approachable way to influence and drive adoption
• Demonstrated success in driving revenue acceleration with new product offerings
• Demonstrated thought leadership and the aptitude to think creatively and identify new ways to innovate and differentiate products with evidence of tangible business results
• Ability to inspire and influence others without direct management responsibility
• Visa or financial/payment industry knowledge required
• Diversity of thought and experience as well as a desire to continually seek new perspectives and feedback, take an inclusive approach, and engage diverse points of view
• Ability to influence/operate effectively across a matrixed organization (functions & geography) to drive positive outcomes
• Polished executive presentation skills, able to engage C-level executives internally and across banking and technology environments.
• Experience cultivating deep partnerships with current and potential internal/external partners. Understands the payments and services industries and can link client needs to opportunities for future service developments or enhancements
• Effective leadership and people management skills, with a focus on developing diverse, high performing teams and fostering an inclusive culture that is collaborative and inquisitive
