DIRECTOR OF FUNDRAISING OPERATIONS

Summary

The Wikimedia Foundation is the non-profit organization that operates Wikipedia – one of the most popular websites in the world, serving nearly half a billion users every month. It is the only non-profit in the top 50 websites, supported by a community of millions of individual donors.

The Director of Fundraising Operations will report to the Vice President of Advancement and is a key member of the Advancement leadership team participating in strategic decision making for the fundraising team. This role will lead the Fundraising Operations team to provide analytical, donor relations, and other operational support to Wikimedia’s overall fundraising program, including the Online Fundraising, Major Gifts, and Endowment teams. 

Succeeding in this role will require strong people management skills and an analytical mindset to lead the ongoing development of the infrastructure enabling the continued growth of Wikimedia’s fundraising program. 

You are responsible for:

  • Lead the fundraising analytics, donor relations, and payment processing teams that comprise the Fundraising Operations team.
  • Manage team performance, ensuring ability to achieve goals, develop team skills, and advance strong operational support for our fundraising program.
  • Partner with fundraising directors and senior leadership to define data-informed goals and strategy to enable the growth of the fundraising program. 
  • Oversee a productive working relationship with the fundraising engineering team to identify gaps and opportunities and ensure shared technical priorities are met. 
  • Partner with VP of Advancement, fundraising directors, the finance and product departments on revenue forecasting.  
  • Work closely with other data leaders at the Foundation on shared priorities and cultivating an environment for mutual learning. 
  • Model leadership that cultivates a collaborative, positive, and inclusive team culture; serve as a collaborative thought partner and sounding board.
  • Supervise external vendor or agency relationships.
  • Create and manage the Fundraising Operations annual budget.

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven track record in successfully building and leading operational or technical teams.
  • Extensive experience applying data and insights to build strategic initiatives and measure results. 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; an open and transparent communication style. Strong on asynchronous communication and decision making in a highly consensus-based environment.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills in English, for audiences of all levels, including peers, technical audiences, and executive leaders. 
  • Seasoned team management experience; ability to creatively solve a wide range of challenges and build trust with the team.
  • Experienced coach and mentor with high emotional intelligence: evidenced by humility, tact, compassion, high levels of integrity, and good listening skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and judgment
  • Ability to prioritize when faced with multiple or competing priorities, and meet deadlines; attention to detail and accuracy; the ability to set realistic goals and objectives; 
  • Ability to design and drive operational plans that are interdependent across multiple teams and departments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and belief in equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant work experience
