They have extensive experience treating children with common to complex heart issues, from cardiac surgeries and cardiac catheterizations to heart monitoring. They are the region’s go-to heart program for second opinions and referrals for advanced pediatric heart care.The Heart Center Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing care to infants, children, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease in the intensive care unit and on the transitional care unit. This patient population includes, but is not limited to, pre and/or post-operative cardiac surgery patients, dysrhythmias, cardiomyopathy, pre and post-operative care of heart and lung transplants, and patients requiring Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD) or Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation.
They will work collaboratively with the supervising Washington University physician to conduct patient assessments, physical exams, and diagnose health and developmental problems. The Heart Center Nurse Practitioner will participate in the Heart Center medical rounds, including the presentation of clinical information and the progress and management of patients. They will assist with establishing a treatment plan and discharge plan. Role PurposeThe critical care nurse practitioner is a healthcare provider who works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to patients and families in critical care settings.
