Database Administrator (Google Cloud Platform)

We are an innovative and fast-growing educational data company seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator (Google Cloud Platform) with educational database administration expertise to join our Data Operations team. This role is essential for ensuring seamless backend data integrations, managing API/SFTP connections, automating workflows, and conducting rigorous data quality checks, with a particular focus on educational data standards and governance. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in database management, data pipelines, and automation processes to drive our educational data solutions forward.Key Responsibilities:Backend Data Integration:Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of backend data integration solutions specific to educational environments.Manage large-scale datasets across multiple educational systems, ensuring smooth data flow between internal and external educational platforms.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand educational data requirements and deliver effective integration solutions aligned with educational standards (e.g., Ed-Fi, CEDS).Educational Database Administration:Oversee and maintain educational databases, ensuring compliance with educational data privacy laws (e.g., FERPA).Manage database configurations tailored to educational systems, including student information systems (SIS), learning management systems (LMS), and student assessment systems.Ensure data governance and standardization, implementing best practices specific to the educational sector.Manage and troubleshoot databases, data warehouses, and operational data stores.Integrations Management:Establish and maintain secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) connections for data ingestion, particularly for educational data systems.Monitor and troubleshoot SFTP connections, ensuring minimal disruption in educational data transfers.Design, implement, and maintain API integrations between Parsecs system and various educational technology platformsDevelop and document RESTful APIs to facilitate data exchange between internal systems and third-party applications.Implement secure authentication methods for API access, such as OAuth 2.0 or API keys.Monitor API performance, usage, and error rates, optimizing as necessary to ensure efficient data transfer.Collaborate with educational technology vendors to troubleshoot API-related issues and implement new integrations.System Administration and Security:Ensure database security, integrity, reliability, and availability.Develop and implement backup, recovery, and restructuring procedures.Install, test, maintain, and upgrade database-related software.Data Automation:Develop, test, and implement automation scripts to streamline data processes, with attention to educational data workflows.Ensure the automation of data workflows is scalable and sustainable, improving overall system efficiency.Use automation tools to monitor and schedule data imports, exports, and transformations related to educational datasets.Data Quality Assurance:Implement robust data quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of all data sets, particularly for student and assessment data.Design and manage processes to identify, report, and resolve data discrepancies.Collaborate with the data engineering team to create tools and scripts for ongoing data validation and cleaning.Debug and troubleshoot issues in a timely manner.Performance Optimization:Monitor the performance of educational database systems, proactively identifying and resolving potential bottlenecks.Ensure the database architecture supports the companys growing data needs and evolving technologies.Documentation, Reporting, and Training:Maintain comprehensive documentation of database systems, integration workflows, and data processes.Generate reports on data system performance, quality, and automation efficiency for key stakeholders.Create complex SQL reports to improve business and educational processes.Design the logical and physical structure of database systems.Establish and maintain data dictionary systems.Train and guide others on database systems and processes.Collaboration and Support:Work with users and programming staff on database applications and designs.Interact with vendor support for efficient system operations.Participate in and/or lead projects, teams, and meetings.Qualifications:Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Management, or a related field (Masters degree preferred).5+ years of experience in database management, backend integration, and data automation, preferably in an educational or data-driven company.Proven experience with SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other database management systems (BigQuery Preferred).Strong expertise in data integration tools and ETL pipelines.Hands-on experience with SFTP setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.Proficiency in scripting languages (Python and Bash).Strong understanding of data governance, quality assurance processes, and best practices.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.Strong communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Preferred Skills:Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions (Google Cloud Platform Preferred).Experience with data visualization tools (Looker/Looker Studio Preferred) and
