Job Summary:
The Controller will plan and direct theaccounting operations of the company.
SupervisoryResponsibilities:• Oversees the operations ofthe Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable,bank reconciliations, and payroll.• Oversees training programsand identifies training needs.Duties/Responsibilities:
1. FinancialReporting:• Prepare andpresent accurate financial reports, including profit and loss statements,balance sheets, and cash flow statements.• Analyze financialdata to identify trends and make recommendations for improvements.
2. Budgeting andForecasting:• Develop annualbudgets and forecasts in collaboration with the restaurant management team.• Monitor andcontrol budget expenditures, ensuring adherence to financial goals.
3. Cost Control:• Oversee inventoryand cost management, including food, beverages, and labor costs.• Implement andmaintain effective cost-control procedures to minimize waste and maximizeprofitability.• Conduct regularaudits of inventory, labor costs, and vendor payments.
4. Cash FlowManagement:• Monitor cash flowand ensure the restaurant maintains adequate liquidity.• Ensure timelypayment of bills and manage vendor relationships to maintain good credit terms.
5. Payroll andBenefits Administration:• Oversee payrollprocessing, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.• Manage employeebenefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
6. Compliance andInternal Controls:• Ensure therestaurant complies with all financial regulations, including tax reporting andpayment.• Develop andimplement internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud or financialmismanagement.
7. Vendor andSupplier Relations:• Negotiate withvendors for cost-effective purchasing agreements.• Ensure timelypayment of suppliers and manage relationships to secure favorable terms.
8. FinancialAnalysis:• Analyze financialstatements to identify opportunities for increased efficiency andprofitability.• Provide financialinsights and recommendations to the management team for strategicdecision-making.
9. Team Leadership:• Lead andsupervise accounting staff, if applicable.• Ensure that theteam maintains accurate records and adheres to accounting principles andstandards.
10. Technology andSystems:• Manage financialsoftware systems (e.g., accounting software, POS systems) and ensure they areup to date.• Implement newtechnologiesRequired Qualifications:• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field(CPA preferred but not required).• 3+ years of experience in accounting or financialmanagement, preferably in the hospitality or restaurant industry.• Proficiency with accounting software and MicrosoftExcel.• Strong knowledge of financial regulations andaccounting standards.• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to workeffectively with management and vendors.Key Competencies:• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.• Strategic thinking with a focus on financialefficiency and profitability.• Leadership and team management skills.Physical Requirements:• Prolonged periods sitting ata desk and working on a computer.• Must be able to lift up to 15pounds at times.• Able to travel as needed.
