Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Manages activities of communication environment with multiple internal and external clients and target audiences. Develops marketing and public relations strategies and plans. Directly serves the office of the Institute for Systems Research (ISR) director by implementing initiatives, advising and providing high-level communication expertise. Builds relationships and provides leadership on behalf of ISR with the media, the university, and the Clark School and its individual units. Develops and manages comprehensive Internet presence and produces high-quality long- and short-format publications. Administers and manages ISR information, including research products, faculty, student and alumni information and achievements, and industry/government-partnered projects, contacts and history.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:Bachelor degree from an accredited institution, preferably in journalism, communication, marketing, public relations, or related field.Experience:
5 years of experience in public relations and marketing, including web content development and management; publications writing, editing, design and production; and media relations.Minimum two years of prior supervisory experience required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to develop and manage long- and short-term projects independently to completion.Strong interpersonal skills and flexible strategies for interacting w/ a wide variety of individuals at all levels of the university and external community.Current software technical proficiency in web design and content management, graphic design, photo manipulation and database management, as well as the Microsoft Office suite of software.Skill at designing information retrieval and dissemination systems.Ability to quickly recognize and identify newsworthy achievements and translate them into appropriate vehicles for dissemination.Ability to grasp technical issues and terminology, ask critical questions of experts, and translate into lay concepts.Preferences:

Background in technical or science writing and experience in a higher-education environment highly desirable.Knowledge of UMCP administration and contacts within the university is highly desirable.
