Work responsibilities extend to turning off water services to non-paying customers, responding to customer complaints and performing unskilled to semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal water distribution, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems. Work is performed under the close direction of a Customer Service Representative & Utilities Foreman. Essential Functions of Work Reads and records water meter readings and calculates water consumption.Turns off water service to customers who are delinquent in their utility payments.Receives, responds or refers customer complaints to a higher city authority for response.Conducts final meter readings for customers who are moving in or out of the residence or commercial establishment. Reports equipment malfunctions to the meter mechanic for appropriate repairs.Assists in maintaining and repairing the water, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems to achieve efficient operations; may respond to emergency calls for service as required. Assists in inspecting and cleaning sewer lines to ensure proper flow. Assists in repairing, replacing and installing fire hydrants and valves for proper performance and efficiency. Assists in turn ons and shut offs of water service and mains in order to perform repairs and maintenance.Operates video equipment used to inspect existing and new sanitary sewer and storm drain lines for proper flow and condition rating. Education and ExperienceA high school diploma or equivalent. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONSCandidate must possess or have the ability to obtain valid Montana driver's license. Requirements of Work Basic knowledge of water systems and service.Knowledge of basic mathematics.Basic human relations skills. Must have the ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to use meter reading equipment and operate a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone and two-way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports. EXPECTED HOURS OF WORKThe work week is 40 hours, Sunday through Saturday with work typically performed in a Monday through Friday work schedule. This position is a non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Must be available for call out work. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working. TRAVELTravel is primarily local during the business day.
