Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Programs and the Senior Program Manager, the Senior Program Supervisor for the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (BHNC) plays a proactive role in assisting active and atrisk seniors in accessing and participating in the BHNCs Senior Center - Excelsior location. This position also coordinates referrals for the senior program. This position works directly with participants, volunteers, staff, bilingual Social Services Coordinator) and community-based organizations to plan programs and activities, screen and coordinate services provided by others, and act as a liaison to the broader community. This position coordinates a large variety of recreational activities, a daily congregate meal, weekly food pantry, and onsite social services. This leadership position requires a flexible and independent work style and a strong team/group ethic. This position requires demonstrated experience in coordinating community services for residents, program planning, effective interpersonal skills, and active team participation.

Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (BHNC) is a non-profit community based multi-service agency founded in 1978. Our mission is

to preserve and enhance the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of Bernal Heights and surrounding neighborhoods. We promote community action to build a just and equitable community for all. BHNC focuses on the needs of people with low and moderate incomes. We work to accomplish our mission by:Developing affordable housing throughout San Francisco;

Providing linguistically and culturally responsive services to our communitys most vulnerable adults, seniors, youth, and their families;

Developing leaders; organizing and empowering our tenants, clients, members, and allies to advocate for their needs and for the needs of the community.

BHNC has five key program areas to meet this mission: Housing Development and Rehabilitation, Senior Programs, Youth Programs, Employment Programs and Community Organizing. We serve a thousand youth, adults and seniors annually from our offices in Bernal Heights and the Excelsior. Our programs raise funds from the public sector, housing development and management, foundations, local businesses and individuals.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing recreational activities for the Active Senior" program at Excelsior - Tuesday - Saturday,

including, daily games, exercise class, computer lab activities, educational presentations, outings, cultural and holiday special events

Supervises the Volunteer & Social Services Coordinator and any of his or her assigned duties

Collaborates with the Volunteer & Social Services Coordinator and the San Francisco Marin Food Bank on our food assistance programs that include our food pantries and food box programs

Oversees the training of Arriba Juntos participants

Creates and maintains a quarterly work plan that includes activities planning, newsletters, fieldtrip scheduling, screening and booking onsite vendors and community outreach with the support of the Senior Program Manager

Responsible for creating the monthly Activity Calendar that is translated and distributed to participants

Responsible for the daily opening and securing of the facility and maintenance of the Active Senior programs equipment and physical space.

Provide support and oversight to the Nutrition Site Coordinator from OnLok that provides meal services at the BHNC.

Conduct regular community outreach to increase program participation

Coordinate and/or provide translation and interpretation services for monolingual program participants as needed

Oversee the Senior Committee that provides participants with a forum for leadership, dialogue, input into governance and conflict resolution for identified needs and issues raised by program participants.

Foster leadership qualities in individual participants and promote community engagement by encouraging participant to engage in community issues.

Provide information, referral, direct services to drop in participants and initiate referrals for social services, and case management services.

Liaison with the main BHNC staff to order needed supplies, space rental, managing the physical space if repairs are needed and other operational tasks.

Recruit, screen and coordinate community based educational speakers, volunteer entertainment and activity leaders to enhance the variety of recreational activities

Coordinate and escalate conflict resolution with program participants and volunteers in collaboration with the Executive Director and Volunteer Program Coordinator

Lead the process of completing and entering client intakes / participant data to ensure program compliance and to document utilization of the Active Senior program.

Oversees and reviews clients progress notes to ensure quality

Maintain and organize documentation including daily sign-ins for lunch service, monthly participant and service information, activity logs, volunteer logs and other documentation as required for contract compliance.

Complete participant charting, monthly Units of Service and Activity Scheduling reports, and any other documentation as required by the agency and funding sources.

Coordinate daily, weekly and monthly service delivery by local providers including transportation providers, taxi scrip, MUNI / Paratransit.

Responsible for some budget tracking, primarily of program expenses

Assists in the preparation of documents for our yearly monitoring visit

Participate in Senior Services Department and BHNC meetings, community events, annual membership campaign, and other meetings as required. Some meetings include: monthly Senior

Department meeting, weekly Senior Program Supervisors meeting, bi-weekly BHNC all-staff meeting, monthly senior advisory committee meetings

Other duties assigned

QualificationsTwo year prior experience working with seniors and disabled adults preferred, as well as experience working with volunteers, social work, gerontology, group facilitation, and recreational activities

1 year of supervising staff in a social services setting or similar

Commitment to social action, social justice, civic engagement and leadership development

Ability to interact with and positively engage people of various social, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, religious, economic and educational backgrounds

Desire and ability to work as a member of a team

Ability to work in an active setting with staff and volunteers

Bi-lingual Spanish and English skills (both written and verbal) preferred.

Ability to provide excellent customer service

Able to prioritize tasks in a fast paced and independent environment

Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information

Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills

Ability to perform mathematical functions for budget tracking purposes including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, calculation of percentages, copying figures, counting, and recording

Strong organizational skills with attention to details, consistently able to follow through and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.

Proficient in Microsoft Office required, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Proficient in Google Suite required, including but not limited to Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Drive, Google Calendar and Google Forms

Experience with Slack preferred

Experience or desire to learn data entry into DAAS GetCare Database

Strong sense of accountability and responsibility

Ability to lead with initiative

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires frequent sitting, typing and computer use * occasionally requires pushing and/or pulling objects, walk up and down stairs and/or hills, lifting and/or carrying up to 25 lbs. * requires the ability to frequently move about or remain seated depending on the task at hand.

This full-time, non-exempt position includes a competitive salary based on experience with employee paid benefits that include medical, dental, life, EAP, generous paid time off, and holidays, paid lunch, monthly cell phone stipend and more. Must be able to work 9 to 5pm Tuesday through Saturday with occasional evening and weekend hours for special events.
