The Position

This position is a member of the Purchasing department. The Buyer II will report directly to the Vice President of Operations.

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day release of Purchase Orders to support manufacturing and Customer Orders
  • Primary interface between manufacturing plant operations and Materials Manager
  • Implement Negotiated PO Terms & Conditions (Quality, Delivery, Price, Logistics, and Value add services, etc.)
  • Monitor order status and past due reports; Expedite & de-expedite orders
  • Initiate/Conduct Supplier interface & meetings
  • Champion special needs/projects as directed by Materials Manager
  • Negotiate lead-time and min/mult. requirements; establish appropriate safety stock levels
  • Monitor supplier quality and delivery performance and initiate corrective action
  • Develop and maintain assigned ISO procedures and related work instructions

Job Requirements

Education

  • 3 to 5 years purchasing, materials, or scheduling experience preferred
  • Associate Degree required, Or Equivalent Experience; Bachelor Degree preferred in related field of study

Skills & Relevant Work Experience

  • Good written & verbal communication skills required
  • Excellent understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and order replenishment techniques
  • Self-started with excellent organizational skills required
  • Strong negotiation skills preferred
  • Strong computer skills (Information Systems; Microsoft Office; INFOR (XA, Mapics) or equivalent
  • Experience with buying Raw Materials (Bar Stock, Steel Plate, etc.) and MRO type items a Plus
  • Experience with buying Purchase to print type items and the ability to read drawings preferred
  • Knowledge of CNC/Machine type tooling a Plus
  • Lean/6S & 6 Sigma Training/Certification a Plus
  • Fluency in English
  • Responsible for providing effective communications channels with all BMS manufacturing disciplines including Production Control, Accounting, Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering
  • High energy level with superior concentration, analytical and communication skills

Travel Requirements: up to 5%
