Job Title: Lead U/S Tech Multi - Hosp

Unit: Ultrasound

Shift: Mon-Fri, 8:30a-5p

Facility: MVH

The Lead Ultrasound (US) Technologist is responsible for coordinating all duties associated with the US department. Responsible for maintaining staffing levels at the appropriate budgeted levels. Provides immediate supervisor with information regarding the daily operations and gives input into programs, procedure development and staff evaluations. In a timely manner, will deal with direct reports effectively and hold others accountable. Responsible for compliance with all regulatory guidelines, including the completion of quality assurance testing. Independently performs US procedures utilizing proper techniques. Works under their scope of practice. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of duties in order to maintain equipment in good working condition. May perform procedures in other imaging modalities based on departmental needs. May have on call responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Functions:

1.      Assumes responsibility for the daily activities of the unit, exercises professional judgment in the performance of their duties, and coordinates patient care. Freely gives recognition and is able to delegate duties. Practices problem-solving and problem-prevention skills.

2.      Performs US procedures of diagnostic quality as ordered by the referring physician and/or radiologist on patients of all ages according to established protocols and evaluates US studies for technical image quality. Follows radiation safety policies and procedures.

3.      Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the US procedure. 

4.      Performs QC as required.

5.      Practices sterile techniques.

6.      Assists Radiologist in special procedures and in performing medical treatment during emergency situations.

7.      Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction

8.      Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs.   Thoroughly educates patients about exam. 

9.      Ensures that all records, files and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure.

10. Maintains knowledge of the locations and operation of all emergency equipment in the unit.
