POSITION SUMMARY

The Town of Oro Valley is seeking Recreation Aides to work in the Parks & Recreation Department. Recreation aides provide support to recreation staff to ensure quality delivery of recreation programs. They can work, community events, youth camps, child watch services, sports and other recreational programs as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists the Department with recreational and/or cultural programs and/or special events as assigned.
  • Supervises participants in recreational and/or cultural programs and activities.
  • Assists in promoting and providing information to the public regarding recreational and/or cultural activities.
  • Sets up, cleans up and maintains designated areas for recreational activities.
  • Maintains safe, secure environments for employees, volunteers and participants.
  • Enforces game, program and facility rules at Town, school, or other facilities and associated properties.
  • Interacts in a helpful, positive way with the public.
  • Provides accurate information and responds effectively to public inquiries about programs and facilities.
  • Maintains records, files and attendance of participants.
  • May supervise young children in a nursery setting.
  • Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Recreation
  • Assists with day-to-day operations at Steam Pump Ranch.
  • Leads and assists with guided trail hikes in an outdoor setting.
  • Implements and oversees elements of community special events.
Camps

  • Supervises youth in seasonal camps throughout the year.
  • Camp examples are SPF camp at the Community & Recreation Center, Splash camp at the Aquatic Center, STEAM camp at Steam Pump Ranch, Nature camp at Catalina State Park and more.
KidZone (child watch services)

  • Supervises young children in a nursery setting.
Special Events

  • Assists with Special Events, such as 4th of July, movies, Second Saturday, Concerts, etc.
Recreation aids may perform a combination of these duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of recreation and/or cultural programs, youth activities and rule interpretation.
  • Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • No previous education is required.
  • One (1) year experience in a recreational or youth activity environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Work may be performed at various locations.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
