Position Overview
The Therapeutic Medical Physicist is responsible for performing all external beam treatment plans, interstitial and intracavitary implant plans as required, checks initial calculations on all patients, assists physician with weekly chart checks, performs CT planning scans and weekly machine calibration checks.

Primary responsibilities include checking the calculations of radiation dose according to the physician treatment prescription; assisting in the design and fabrication of all necessary molds as required; preparing all computer dosimetry plans under the supervision of the physician and ensuring plans are delivered as approved by the radiation oncologist; and checking simulation set up as necessary to perform CT assisted computer plans.

Education
A graduate of an accredited School of Medical Physics required; Master's Degree minimum, PhD or Doctoral candidate preferred.

License
N/A

Certification
Certification in therapeutic radiological physics by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics.

Experience
Minimum two (2) to three (3) years' post graduate degree experience as Therapeutic Medical Physicist' Radiation Safety. Diagnostic Medical Physics, Clinical dosimetry and exposure to Varian, Aria, Eclipse operating platforms highly preferred.

Physical Demands
Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-to-day activities. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a great deal of walking without experiencing undue fatigue. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation.

Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard copier and 10-key.

Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate, speak, and enunciate to express/exchange ideas and detailed information in person and on the telephone. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e., shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at close vision.

Mental Demands
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone - including being able to communicate effectively with the Dosimetrist, therapists and radiation oncology physicians. Must present a professional image at all times and show consideration of others, including patients, staff, physicians and guests; have impeccable honesty and integrity; maintain complete confidentiality in the disclosure of information; and be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.

Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

Special Demands
Must remain current on all aspects of medical dosimetry and updates referable to the ROCS Tx planning computer.

Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.).

Work requires the ability to function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, and understand and set goals. Must possess highly developed organizational, planning and management skills. Must understand the fundamentals of automated data processing, and be able to quickly gain a detailed understanding of complex computerized and non-computerized information.
