JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/ObjectiveThe Town of Oxford is looking fora WRTA Van Driver. The Van Driverprovides for the safe and timely transportation of senior citizens to variouslocations throughoutthe Town of Oxford and other communities as scheduled by WRTA. Employeeprovides assistance to patrons, as needed, while boarding and departing thedepartment bus. The employee works under the direct supervision of the SeniorCenter Director and the Town ofOxford where clear, detailed and specific instructions, department practices or regulations govern the work performed or are explained with each assignment. Questionable situations are referred to the Directorfor clarification and further instructions.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals withdisabilities to perform the essential functions.Responsible for operating a multi-passenger van inaccordance with local,state, and federal regulations. MUST attend occasionalMASSDOT trainings providedby WRTA.Employee attention todetail is imperative as errors could result in missed deadlines, adverse public relations, legal repercussions, personal injury, jeopardized programs, and danger to public health/safety.Attends training programs to maintain knowledgeof requirements to operate a multi passenger transportation vanAssist passengers boarding and departing the busProvides assistance to passengers with special needs, i.e. using a wheelchairMaintains cleanliness of a passenger vehicle and reportsany operational deficiencies to Senior Center Director.All other duties as assignedCompetencies

Working knowledgeof passenger van driving rules, regulations, and operation.Knowledge of the street layout of Oxford and surrounding municipalitiesincluding the City of Worcester.Ability to drive a multi passengervehicle safely, be aware of surroundings, andassist passengers with specialneeds as required.Must have good interpersonal oralcommunication skills.Must be patient, considerate, and respectful of elders.Basic Computer knowledgeis a must.

Supervisory Responsibility None.

Work Environment

Working conditions involve occasional exposure tointermittent machine or related noise or a combination of unpleasant elements such asodors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, heat, cold, oil, dirt or grease when transporting elderly passengers. Work may involvegeneral cleaning, occasional work at heightsor in confined or crampedquarters, or work aroundmachinery and its movingparts.

Physical Demands

Must be able to push up to 300 pounds. Work effort principally involves sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing. There may also be some occasional lifting of objects including but not limited to assisting frail elderly to enter and exit from the passengervan. Duties are largely mental ratherthan physical, but the job may occasionally requireminimal motor skillsfor activities such as movingobjects. Employee is routinely requiredto read documents or road signs while operatinga passenger van for generalunderstanding. The employeeis required to determine color differences on a regularbasis.

Position Type and Expected Hoursof Work This is a part-time non-benefiteligible position.

Travel

Local travel required.

Required Education and Experience

1. Minimumof high school diploma with two to three (2-3) years of passenger drivingexperience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training andexperience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities toperform the essential functions of the job.

2. Musthave a valid Class D Driver"'s License, as well as a good driving record.

3. Knowledgeof operation of van lift.

4. Acondition of employment is that employee is subject to passing random drug andalcohol tests.
