General Description
**This is an on-call CASUAL LABOR position**
Provides safe and timely operation of the Citrus County Transit vehicles. Observes all state and local traffic laws and all safety rules and adheres to time schedules. This position is "safety sensitive" and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.
Essential Functions
Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.Loads and unloads, moves, and secures wheelchair; assists with infant, elderly, frail and disabled passengers while boarding and departing vehicles.Completes pre trip and post trip inspections. Checks and fills fluids, lights, mirrors, tires, wheelchair lift, radio, body damage, etc.Cleans and inspects vehicle before and after each run.Reports accidents, keeps records and reports.Communicates effectively with customers face-to-face while interacting positively with a variety of personalities internally and externally.Performs work under stress and frequent interruptions.Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
Education, Training, and Experience
High School Graduate or GED equivalent.Three (3) years of driving experience (commercial and/or non-commercial) preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
Valid Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL) "B" or "C" with Passenger Endorsement.Clean driving record with no more than seven (7) points in the last three (3) years.Successful completion of Level II Background screening is required.Must be able to operate equipment in a safe manner and obey all safety policies.Knowledge of defensive driving techniques, rules, regulations, procedures, and policies.Knowledge of geographical area within Citrus County.Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.Ability to follow written instructions and perform calculations with accuracy.Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); andIS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Requires sitting most of the time.The job involves lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.The job requires frequent bending, squatting, balancing, twisting, and reaching above shoulders, and occasional crawling.The job requires simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment, and operating a manual transmission.The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.The job may risk exposure to adverse weather and moving machinery.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment, and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
