Position Description:

The Director of Community Engagement of Lighthouse Mission Ministries (LMM) will work closely with the Chief Program Officer (CPO) and program staff in creating, planning, and implementing all public-related functions of community outreach including volunteer development and training, volunteer support services, future internship structuring, group and holiday event volunteer coordination, and volunteer opportunity placement.

Compensation to Include:

PTO & Paid-holiday Package, 100% employer paid Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance for employee; 403(b) contribution and match up to 5%, Employee Assistance Program, Paid Training, and Education Reimbursement.

Responsibilities:

Help plan, implement, and maintain a community training program that provides in-person training for local businesses and organizations.

Work with the Advancement and Program Administration teams to identify community speaking opportunities, internship fairs, and church engagement events that could cultivate volunteer and intern interest. Attend events as requested.

Work with the CPO to create development paths for volunteers to become further engaged in a variety of tasks.

Oversee and coordinate new and group volunteer procedures such as reviewing application forms, screening interviews, performing background checks, creating badges, and providing a sustainable plan of action to hand off volunteers to other ministries of interest.

Train community volunteers to do outreach throughout the community utilizing current training programs and filling current outreach needs.

Manage volunteer services such as volunteer debriefing, volunteer appreciation events, and volunteer newsletters.

Maintain documentation regarding volunteer hours, client updates, and donations.

Model an incarnational and relational sharing of the Gospel with volunteers, donors, staff, vulnerable people and those experiencing homelessness to the community.

Coordinate with CPO and Program Directors to edit and maintain a “Volunteer/Staff/Resident Engagement” Guidelines Manual as well as coordinate placement of volunteers and interns to the various ministry departments as needed.

Follow all relevant LMM policies and procedures.

Maintain a positive, pleasant, and professional attitude. Work with other staff to model transparent and supportive Christian relationships, which will serve as a leadership example for shelter guests.

Embrace and use LMM’s grace-based accountability philosophy.

Organizational Relationships:

Reports directly to the Chief Program Officer.

Works alongside the Programs and Program Administration Teams, volunteers, residents, and interns.

Represents LMM to supporters, volunteers, and the general public.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a combination of education, life, and work experience that demonstrates the ability to fulfill all aspects of the job description.

A passion for community engagement and volunteerism. Event planning experience preferred. Refined organizational skills and a keen attention to detail.

Effective interpersonal communication skills for communication with co-workers, supporters, and the public.

A passion for serving Jesus and making the Gospel known through mercy ministry. The successful candidate will have an active church/prayer life and be in agreement with the Lighthouse Mission’s Statement of Faith and Life and Personal Covenant.

Knowledge of and preferably experience with issues of homelessness, poverty, addiction, domestic violence, and recovery.

Ability to report as regularly scheduled to work sites including working outside of typical business hours as needed for special events and meetings.

Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug and criminal background screenings.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Medium to heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) as needed to assist with donations and/or special events. 60% sitting; 20% standing; 20% walking.

Possible exposure to a variety of illnesses.

Both inside and outside activities regardless of weather.
