Responsibilities
The Flow Cytometry Lead plays a vital role in our team by performing advanced flow cytometry and hematology functions. In this position, you'll prepare specimens using various procedures for antibody staining, acquisition, and analysis on a multi-color flow cytometer. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to perform hematology functions, including preparing and staining peripheral blood smears and bone marrow aspirates for differential counts, as well as conducting CBCs on peripheral blood specimens.Beyond these critical functions, you will ensure compliance with various regulatory bodies (CAP, CLIA, etc.). You'll write procedures and design workflows and forms, including those for training, maintenance, and competencies. Your role will also involve ensuring staff competency, handling inventory and ordering, leading flow cytometry projects, performing validations, and more.Responsible for the independent performance of technical procedures, including emergency and routine patient testing, quality control, and preventive maintenance. Qualifies as a General Supervisor under CLIA, and may act as supervisor designate in the absence of the Section Manager or Section Supervisor. Demonstrates Leadership and Technical Expertise.Requirements
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
At least four (4) years of prior experience in performing high-complexity flow cytometry testing as a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
A B.S. and successful completion of an accredited MT/MLS program.
A B.S or A.A. in Chemistry, Biology, or other laboratory based Science including a Laboratory training program or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS or HHS sanctioned reviewer, ASCP accreditation or equivalent.
A B.S. or A.A. in Chemistry, Biology, or other laboratory based Science degree that includes 60 semester hours of medical lab technology courses or other sciences as specified by CLIA.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Certification Requirements:
ASCP Certification Required; Specialty Certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following:
Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel
Microsoft Outlook
Meditech (if applicable to position)
Epic (if applicable to position)
Performance Manager/NetLearning
Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Other Requirements:
Meet M.T. Tier requirements for MT/MLS III and successfully complete the application process.
