Full-time/Part-time, FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt

Supervisor: Chief Creative Officer

Salary Range: $65,000-$72,000/year

General Summary:

The Senior Associate Director, Marketing (Development & Social Media) is responsible for brand-building and promotion to support fundraising goals for an internal client base of revenue-generating teams (Annual Fund, Ridley, Business Development, and Membership). This role also assists in defining and leading social media strategy across all platforms in alignment with the Association’s values of integrity, inclusion, connection, innovation, and service. The Association produces marketing campaigns and communications for channels including email, web, social, print, events (in-person and virtual), and branded merchandise.

The Senior Associate Director helps to set the strategy for the Association’s brand and partners with the Association’s creative team to execute and produce collateral to support the approved strategy. This individual will oversee the development and execution of engaging collateral that ensures clear and effective communications that represent, serve, and engage a diverse alumni population of nearly 270,000 alumni.

The Senior Associate Director will be an excellent brand steward, a strategic thinker, a problem-solver, an expert at marketing communications, a clear and concise communicator, and a team builder. They will excel at giving and receiving feedback, keeping projects on time and on budget, and building trust throughout the Association. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is expected.

The Senior Associate Director will report to the Chief Creative Officer and partner closely with the creative team and key stakeholders including program leads, Association senior leadership, Board of Managers members, and University partners.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Marketing Strategies and Execution

Develops marketing strategies and integrated marketing communication plans that enable achievement of the Association’s fundraising and membership goals, including events, programs, and services, as well as leadership-level communications. Creates plans, oversees execution of plans including audience segmentations/personas, journey maps, copywriting, and marketing plans to help guide messaging and creative development. Tracks and reports results and uses data to inform decision-making.

Helps set and steward the strategic vision for the Association brand, including ownership of Association social media communities and strategic oversight of the Association website. Contributes to the development of brand positioning, strategic frameworks, brand goals, and the tracking and reporting of progress against goals.

Works closely with Chief Creative Officer and creative team on creative concepts, content creation, and production of marketing communications for channels including email, web, print, social, and merchandise.

Ensures that content messaging is consistent across all channels and that updates are made in a timely fashion, partnering with and collaborating closely with peers in the Development Department. Supporting events, capturing content, and driving engagement of our alumni, students, and staff.

Ensures that the Association is representing, serving, and engaging alumni audiences through each communication. Seeks to understand alumni audiences and uses data and insights to inform strategy development and is a voice for inclusion in how our brand and programs come to life in alignment with our core values.

Builds strong relationships with internal clients. Presents and provides strong recommendations and guidance. Manages marketing needs for their clients throughout the project lifecycle, oversees reviews and approvals, and ensures satisfaction with the end product.

Uses and champions project management processes and software WorkRight (Wrike.com).

Collaborates with creative team and Association teams as well as colleagues on the UVA brand team as needed.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field preferred

5-10 years of experience in directly related marketing activities as outlined above

Expertise in social media management and execution

Expertise in digital marketing (website and email)

Experience with project management software such as Monday.com, Wrike, or similar

Experience with the creation of marketing plans, communications strategies, and emergency communication planning and execution

Additional Essential Competencies:

Familiarity/experience with social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc.

Ability to organize and execute multiple overlapping projects.

Non-profit or higher education experience preferred

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Detail-oriented with a demonstrated track record of meeting deadlines and goals

Demonstrated self-motivation and personal accountability

Supervision:

This position does not supervise any employees.

Fast-paced, hybrid office environment with a minimum of 2 days in the office each week and the remaining days working from home or in office depending on scheduled events and activities required for the role

Occasional lifting of computer-related equipment and branded products (approximately 40 pounds or less)
