The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a

Director of Career and Professional Development . This role will lead the career services team, managing strategic and operational plans, budgeting, and personnel. Responsibilities include overseeing career advising programs for undergraduate through PhD students, developing workshops, and building partnerships with employers and corporate partners. The Director will collaborate with academic operations to integrate career programming into the curriculum and support student success through data-driven assessment and reporting.Key Duties:Strategic leadership and management:

Leads the strategic direction and operational effectiveness of SDS's career services team, ensuring delivery of innovative programs that align with the school's mission. Develops and implements strategic plans for the team's growth, focusing on student career readiness and industry engagement. Monitors industry trends, manages the budget, and oversees recruitment and professional development for career services personnel. Regularly reports outcomes and metrics to school leadership.

Student advising and program development:

Designs and oversees a comprehensive, data-informed student career advising program for all SDS students. Develops career development workshops, integrates career readiness into the curriculum, and strategically implements employer engagement initiatives to connect students with industry leaders.

External partners and relations:

Cultivates and strengthens relationships with employers, corporate partners, and alumni to source internship and job opportunities. Collaborates with UVA's University Career Center and Development team to enhance employer relations and create impactful partnerships.

Assessment and evaluation:

Develops and implements strategies to collect and analyze student outcomes, aligning career services with institutional goals. Communicates insights to key stakeholders and uses NACE competencies for benchmarking student career readiness.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Master's degree in business, educational administration, counseling, college student personnel, or related field required.

At least seven years of experience in career planning, employment work, or related field.

Experience in program development, supervision and evaluation, budgeting, and computerization necessary.

The individual must be able to interact effectively with people, possess excellent communication skills and leadership ability, and be dedicated to the National Association of Colleges and Employer's (NACE) principles and practices of career planning, employment, and recruitment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience in higher education in either a centralized operation or academic school.

Master's degree in college student personnel or student affairs.

Anticipated hiring range:
