Position Summary:

The Managing Director of Education and Capacity Building will work under the supervision of the Senior Director of Education and Capacity Building, serving as second-in-command of the Education Team. This individual will lead the operational management of all educational initiatives, ensuring the delivery of high-quality programs across Phipps Neighborhoods' diverse portfolio, which includes two early childhood centers, after-school programs, community schools, workforce development, and adult learner programs. The Managing Director will support all educational programming with a specific focus on the maintenance and cultivation of our STEAM initiatives and activities.

A key responsibility of this role will be the creation of a continuum of skill-based curriculum from early childhood through adult learning and workforce development, with a particular focus on career readiness for high school students. Additionally, the Managing Director will play a pivotal role in supporting professional development and leadership growth for both part-time and full-time staff members, enhancing their capacity to deliver high-quality, inclusive education through leadership development, project management, DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging), and trauma-informed care practices.

The Managing Director will also serve as a key representative of the Education Team, both internally and externally, collaborating with stakeholders and working closely with the Senior Director of Education and Capacity Building to set and execute the agency's strategic direction, ensuring alignment with Phipps Neighborhoods' mission and vision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development & Continuum of Learning

Work closely with the Senior Director of Education and Capacity Building to lead the creation and implementation of a continuum of skill-based curriculum that aligns educational programming from early childhood through adult learning, ensuring a cohesive learning journey for participants.Set goals for student achievement and support the design and implementation of instruction that results in academic success for all students.Leadership Development & Staff TrainingFacilitate the design and implementation of professional development opportunities for staff across all education programs and support staff in implementation of tools and frameworks.Collaborate with program teams to ensure curricula are responsive to community needs and industry trends.Program Operations & Quality Assurance

Collaborate closely with the Education Team and site-based leadership to manage the day-to-day operation of educational programs, ensuring high-quality service delivery.Set and track goals for student and participant success, using data to inform continuous improvement and program refinement.Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

Serve as a key Education Team representative in internal and external leadership capacities, engaging with diverse stakeholders such as funders, community partners, program leaders, and program participants.Build and maintain strategic partnerships that enhance the quality and reach of Phipps Neighborhoods' educational programs.Innovation & Education

Stay informed of emerging trends and research in education, STEAM, youth development, adult learning, and workforce training. Lead the organization in adopting innovative practices that ensure Phipps Neighborhoods' programs remain responsive to the evolving needs of the communities we serve.Support the Education and STEAM Specialists in their charge to provide on-the-ground support to sites and staff and design and develop age-appropriate STEAM focused experiences and assessments. Collaborate with the STEAM Specialist to coordinate all Makerspace activities and STEAM related initiatives.Trauma-Informed & Inclusive Practices

Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all participants by integrating trauma-informed practices into curriculum and staff training. Promote Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) as foundational principles in all aspects of program development and staff leadership.Champion the use of best practices in both youth development and adult learning within community-based settings, ensuring that all educational initiatives are designed to meet the unique needs of learners across all ages.Career Readiness & Workforce Development: Work closely with workforce development teams to align educational programming with industry demands, focusing on building career readiness, particularly for high school students, by integrating life skills, workforce competencies, and leadership development.Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Education and Capacity Building.Qualifications/Experience:

Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in education, youth development, adult learning, science or related fields.Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of experience in education and/or youth development, with a demonstrated track record of developing curricula, managing educational programs, and supporting community-based learning environments.Curriculum & Program Development: Experience creating and implementing skill-based curricula across multiple age groups, from early childhood to adult learning, with a focus on fostering career readiness and life skills.Leadership & Staff Development: Strong background in leading teams and managing professional development, with an emphasis on project management, DEIB, and trauma-informed care. Must be comfortable teaching and co-teaching; and be willing to share examples of previously developed programs, and past experiences working with youth.Collaboration & Relationship Building: Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including staff, community partners, and funders. Demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships that support program goals.Operational Excellence: Proven ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.Commitment to Community Empowerment: A deep commitment to empowering communities through education, with a passion for ensuring equitable access to learning opportunities across age groups.Technology & Innovation: Proficiency in using technology to enhance learning experiences and manage operations, with the ability to leverage digital tools to meet the needs of today's learners.Adept at integrating technology into learning experiences and creating, managing and implementing STEM tools for students.Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.Enthusiasm & Vision: A creative, strategic thinker with the vision to develop innovative educational programs and the operational skills to bring them to life.
