CIRCOR Naval Solutions started in 1897 under Warren Pumps®. This division is best known for serving the U.S. Navy’s submarine and surface ship programs. The highly engineered and custom-built pumps are made of a wide variety of exotic materials and span an envious range of both centrifugal and positive displacement technologies.

CIRCOR Portland Valve was organized in 1973, originating in Portland Maine and moved its operations to Warren, Massachusetts at the end of 2011. CIRCOR Portland Valve is a major valve supplier on the Submarine & Destroyer programs. The company’s products include a broad range of specialized valves for various shipboard services.

Every submarine and aircraft carrier in the U.S. fleet as well as many other U.S. naval vessels depends on the pumps manufactured at Warren.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Receive all incoming supplies, such as bar stock, castings, motors, parts, etc., duties include such as verify quantities and type of materials with purchase orders unload trucks; remove from packaging; enter data into computer system.
  • Receive incoming materials. Match items against packing slip, purchase order; verify to ensure proper specifications, names, quantity, certifications, etc. Note obvious defects of damage to materials and notify appropriate personnel. Mark/stamp items with appropriate identification markings. Fill out all necessary receiving documentation, match work packets with jobs, marking, separating route sheets as required. Determine availability of certifications. Record receipts on daily list and enter into computer system; enter required information to release order. Fill route sheets for all castings, motors, etc. record data on bin cards, and make out ID tags. Deliver items to the appropriate departments. Maintain all pertinent receiving records and files.
  • Store all sizes of bar stock in racks and cut to length as ordered. Set up and operate power (cut off) saw; which includes changing blocks, adjusting feeds and speeds; abrasive disk; or hand saw to cut to job requirements, varying cutting techniques according to type of metal. Set up and operate centering machine. Use appropriate material handling devices for heavy or awkward stock. Stamp and mark bar ends and cut pieces as required by manufacturing procedures.
  • Select proper storage location for items and rearrange so to maximize space utilization efficiency. Operate overhead hoist to move large parts; rig items using chains, hoisting webs and slings. Operate motorized form truck, electric pallet and/or hoisting trucks.
  • Perform routine clerical duties to maintain required records, including maintenance of purchase order and certification files (copies only) and matching of paperwork to orders as required. Prepare ID tag for cut pieces.
  • Monitor and maintain necessary segregation of government and non-government owned material, drawing and reallocating raw material and associated paperwork to appropriate storage areas as workload and application requires.
  • Provide liaison with other departments to help resolve problems, trace parts, etc.
  • Perform shipping, carpentry, preserving, painting and shipping documentation duties to ship pumps, assemblies, and/or components to customers, duties include, such as, checking documentation for completeness, checking for credit holds or releases, selecting carrier where necessary, fabricate shipping containers, duties include, such as maintain lumber inventory, planning materials usage and costs, operation of standard carpentry shop machinery and other similar duties.
  • Prepare items for shipment to customers. Ensure customer packaging and crating requirements are met; ensure all parts are present; check and ensure proper documents are complete and accurate, including routing and carrier data. Prepare appropriate stencils and properly mark containers.
  • Perform a variety of rough carpentry work in the fabrication of fixtures and shipping boxes or skids. Develop plans such as layout, required materials, appropriate fabrication methods, job costs, etc. Make a variety of repairs in shop and/or offices; repair floors, walls, windows, stairs, etc.
  • Fabricate a variety of shipping containers for pumps and assemblies. Work from a variety of plans or rough dimensional measurements. Plan required lay out, list of materials, etc.; select lumber to be used; operate a variety of machines such as table saws, radial arm saws, joiners, planer, etc. to make required cuts and/or to prepare proper surface. Assemble containers using power nail guns, bolts, nuts, wrenches, etc.
  • Maintain lumber inventory at adequate levels; confer with appropriate personnel to determine materials requirements; place orders for lumber as necessary to meet requirements.
  • Prepare parcels for shipment. Prepare required documents for carriers such as UPS or other parcel carriers; affix proper meter stamp in proper fee denominations.
  • Maintain carpentry shop equipment. Perform routine oiling; change blades; make minor repairs. Recommend major repairs or purchases of equipment as required to meet demands.
  • Perform various manual and mechanical duties to paint units to be shipped and to rig into shipping containers, duties include such as mixing paints and solvents to meet required specifications, preparation of surfaces for painting and other similar duties primarily those pertaining to the shipping unit.
  • Use spraying equipment or brushes to paint finished pumps. Properly prepare units by cleaning, greasing, masking, etc. Determine painting specifications by reading contract instructions and/or MIL SPECS. Mix, thin or otherwise prepare paints to meet specifications and apply in required number of coats and thickness. Requires respirator certification.
  • Perform final finish assembly. Prepare and attach name plates, rotation arrows and other similar tags or plates. Attach necessary flange plugs or plates. Ensure required preservatives have been applied. As required, seal units in airtight bags and evacuate air from bags.
  • Apply the appropriate preservative compound according to customer specifications by dipping, brushing, or spraying. Review specifications, MIL SPECS or other documentation to determine required preservation method. Properly clean surfaces to be preserved to remove dirt, oil or other foreign matter.
  • Package preserved parts in appropriate packaging. Wrap items in waterproof paper, corrugated paper, and/or foam material as appropriate; place items in cartons, on skids or boxes. As required, make and seal airtight bags.
  • Prepare and/or complete required documentation for items to be shipped, such as packing lists, giving destinations, quantities, weights, etc. Prepare stencils and mark packages as required. Notify appropriate company and/or government personnel of items ready for shipment.
  • Type complete or partial shipment forms, records and bills of lading. Prepare daily shipping lists of pumps and repairs and customer's orders. Select proper method of transportation and assign shipments to correct carrier. Contact carriers for pick up. Trace lost shipments, file freight claims with carriers.
  • Complete and process long and short forms, defective slip, tags, stencils and stickers. Make out and complete necessary papers for parcel post shipment and C.O.D. orders.
  • Check shipping papers against customer's order for possible errors. Read and interpret contracts to ensure proper routing, markings, and/or MIL SPECS are complied with. Ensure all required documentation is packed with pumps being shipped.
  • Perform a variety of duties to store and disburse raw material, component parts, subassemblies, assembles and pumps as necessary to support the activities of the manufacturing process.
  • Receive material, maintain traceability and identification throughout storage and re-issue process. Maintain all internal record keeping and transfer systems as required to support location traceability. Accumulate and fill out materials for production as specified on work order.
  • Balance stock bin tags and other records as necessary when storing or withdrawing material. Keep related materials and paperwork ordered while being stored and when issued.
  • Handle requisitions received at service window accurately and expeditiously. Track and process shipping orders as required.
  • Use forklift truck and other material handling equipment as appropriate to move skids and material through the stockroom. Hand-carry small pieces as necessary.
  • Process parts that go directly to customers. Complete records and proper documentation.
  • Perform general labor work in any part of the shop as need arises, such as, trucking, moving material, sweeping, shoveling, coolant maintenance, etc.
  • Connect battery to charger nightly. Perform all daily checks on electric and gas trucks.
  • Drive factory industrial truck, operate overhead crane, rig materials for shop movement, collect and remove scrap metal from the plant, load and unload trucks.
  • Clean sidewalks, gutters, shovel snow or work on grounds when required.
  • Detect and report defective materials and faulty operations to proper supervisor. Follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. Maintain work area in clean and orderly manner.
  • Record labor times and other related data on standard forms.
