Shift Available:Full-Time (7P-7A OR 7A-7P)
Neurosciences is a 29 bed unit located on the 3rd floor of the South Tower at OU Health. Of the 29 beds, 9 beds are step down/progressive care and 20 are floor beds. We provide the highest level of Neurological care as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, as designated by The Joint Commission. Our team, led by new leadership has transformed our collaborative care delivery model. This new approach at patient centered care has led to increased employee satisfaction and has improved patient outcomes. We partner with Neurology Faculty to provide continual education that supports professional development and ultimately excellent patient care.
Resident RN:
Less than one (1) year of experience is preferred for this position. If you have more than one (1) year of RN experience, please search for positions titled "Experienced RN" to start the application process.
The OU Health Nurse Residency Program provides the graduate nurse with resources and rich experiences that will serve as a strong foundation for a successful nursing career. OU Health nurse residents receive guidance and support from a primary preceptor and clinical education specialist to successfully bridge the transition from student to professional practice. The program features ongoing structured learning opportunities for residents, a strong social support network, mentoring and preparation to obtain national certification in their chosen specialty area. Candidates must have a current RN license or compact RN license to practice in Oklahoma prior to beginning the program and have less than one year of RN clinical experience to be eligible to enroll in our Nurse Residency Program.

Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing Board Approved Program preferred.
Experience: N/A
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. ACLS (American Heart Association) required if caring for Step Down patients.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Some computer skills.

- Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
- Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; notes all changes in physician order on assigned patients.
- Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
- Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary.
- Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
- Delivers patient care competently.
- Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plan while in the hospital and at time of discharge.
- Informs patient and family of hospital procedures.
- Makes referral regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Delegates tasks to support staff.
