Family Office Sr. Controller

gpac, a recruiting company with over 30 years in the industry is pleased to partner with an established NYC single-family office that is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background in investment management finance/accounting. The Sr. Controller will assume tax and accounting responsibilities, for a portfolio of assets which includes public and private investments across multiple vehicles, including trusts.  This Individual works directly with the President, CFO, Assistant Treasurer and investment accounting team to meet the family member needs for financial reporting, cash management, tax compliance and other services.  This office does not have an operating business.

Responsibilities: 

Accounting & Analysis: 

  • Oversight of corporate GLs; quarterly review and consolidation for Board of Director’s reporting package. 


  • Record and reconcile (monthly) corporate portfolio activity in GL as well as payroll and benefits activity.  


  • Coordination and support with outside auditors on the annual audit of corporate books, for one personal holding company and two subsidiaries.  


  • Recordkeeping and administration of individual client assets across multiple platforms 


  • Quarterly payroll and benefit allocations to related party entities 


  • Ad-hoc reporting for management including reconciliation and analysis as needed 


Cash Flow and Taxes 

  • Coordination with outside CPA firms on all matters relating to 1040 and 1041 taxpayers, including taxable income projections, paying in estimates.  


  • Annual cash planning exercise in conjunction with investment team.  Prepare cashflows and projections for family members and trusts to ensure liquidity needs are met. 


  • Prepare quarterly cash flow report for family members including consolidations across reporting platforms, such as quicken and custody accounts as needed. 


  • Gift tax returns and FBARs.  


  • Support CPA firms and trustees in tax planning and analysis 


  • Follow up on tax notices for timely resolution 


Operations & Administration 

  • Work in advisor brokerage platform to trade securities, arrange IRA contributions and distributions, maintain client accounts and various compliance matters 


  • Backup treasury and payables functions on banking platform (funds transfer) 


  • HR accounting and administration support and backup for office payrolls and benefits 


  • Billing for company plane usage 


  • Tax basis recordkeeping for real property 


Qualifications 

  • CPA preferred, MAA or CFA a plus 


  • 10 years in accounting or tax 


  • Experience in the investment management industry (e.g. audit, tax, fund/corporate accounting, fund administrator, single family office) 


  • Proficiency with Excel and Financial software (BNA, Sage, Mirador, Addepar, Quicken, Schwab Advisor) 


  • Effective communication skills 


  • Adept in client facing roles with HNW families 


  • Ability to thrive in collaborative environment 


  • Excellent organization of tasks and shifting priorities  


  • Familiarity in financial and estate planning concepts 


  • Flexibility executing both high- and low-level tasks
