Job Details:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced IT Hardware Break Fix Engineer (HPC, networking, servers, storage, data systems) to join our progressive technology team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving our high-performance computing (HPC) systems, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime. This role will involve working with a variety of hardware, including compute, storage, and network devices, in a data center environment. Responsibilities:
- Perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of hardware systems in a data center environment, including compute, storage, and network devices.
- Ensure the optimal operation of Linux-based high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
- Conduct regular system checks to identify potential hardware issues before they become critical.
- Work closely with other IT teams to coordinate hardware installations, upgrades, and migrations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all hardware systems, including system configurations, maintenance activities, and incident reports.
- Provide technical support and guidance to other team members and stakeholders on hardware-related issues.
- Stay current with the latest hardware technologies and industry trends, and make recommendations for system improvements and upgrades.
- Implement and adhere to best practices for hardware maintenance and management to ensure system reliability and security.
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend support as needed.
Qualifications:
- Active Department of Energy (DoE) Q Clearance or have held one in the past 3 years.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in IT hardware support, particularly in a data center environment.
- Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems and high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
- Proven experience in hardware break-fix, including troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of compute, storage, and network devices.
- Excellent technical skills, including a strong understanding of system architectures and hardware components.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex hardware issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Current industry certifications (such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Linux+) are a plus.
