Gemstone Foods, LLC is seeking an experienced Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager for our poultry processing plants in Decatur, AL.

Summary

Provides leadership, direction, and execution of all plant food safety functions to support the company's food safety goals and ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies. Ensures all products produced meet or exceed all customer, regulatory, and company requirements as they relate to food safety and quality. Directs the plant Food Safety department in selecting, developing, and motivating team members to achieve organizational goals. Acts as plant authority on all food safety/quality matters and works in conjunction with staff to ensure product safety and quality is always maintained.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Develops, documents, and implements food safety/quality processes and procedures to ensure product safety/quality is always monitored and maintained.

Leads all food safety and regulatory efforts at the plant.

Enforces the company's food safety standards as outlined in the plants HACCP, Quality Manuals, and other programs. Maintains the required documentation.

Serves as the catalyst for leading continuous improvement through technology and scientific research.

Provides leadership and is an active member of all project teams to ensure food safety/quality concerns are addressed.

Provides feedback to customer concerns by working with operations to meet or exceed customer expectations.

Maintains open communications with FSQA Management, operation management, and sales staff regarding potential food safety related concerns.

Develops a professional working relationship and acts as a plant liaison with USDA staff.

Develops staff through appropriate mentoring and continuing education efforts.

Provides timely, accurate, and relevant data and analysis to plant management.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree or higher in poultry, meat, or food science.

Experience Requirements

3 - 5 years experience in a HACCP, QA, or food safety supervisory role. Good analytical and communication skills. Knowledge of poultry and food processing principles. HACCP certified with strong HACCP and regulatory skills.

Experience Preferred

Previous experience as Food Safety/Quality manager in a poultry processing environment.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional movement to other offices or buildings. Exposure may consist of wet and moist floors, temperatures of 28 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db. Must wear and use protective and safety equipment as directed by the Company.
