The Lead Grocery Clerk assists and collaborates with other Grocery leadership in the effective operation of this cornerstone department.Position ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibility of the Lead Grocery Clerk is to assist in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the Grocery department by providing direction and assistance to Grocery Clerks while modeling excellent work habits and customer service. This includes:Working alongside other Grocery leadership to implement, support and sustain systems that prioritize customer experience and sales growthEnsuring the clear communication of expectations and work direction to Grocery ClerksDelivering and modeling phenomenal customer service, at all levelsMaintaining high standards for ordering, receiving, stocking, and merchandising, and working with Grocery Clerks to meet themReceiving, stocking, rotating, and facing product on the sales floor, in coolers, and in freezers; assisting in ensuring the cleanliness and order of both backstock and sales areasAssisting with the training of new staff, and nurturing a culture of continuing education for allAs needed, assisting buyers with ordering according to purchasing & product quality guidelines, customer needs, seasonality, and current product trendsDeveloping professional relationships with suppliers, vendors and community partnersMinimum Requirements1 year of experience in retail grocery management and/or supervision, or equivalent experience, with a desire to build skills and leadership experienceExcellent communication, delegation and oversight skillsAn ability to work in support of and as part of a collaborative team, and build strong, positive connections with staff, while speaking in one voice with Store LeadershipDemonstrated ability to show nimbleness and adaptiveness in a fast-changing industryThe ability to exercise discretion on confidential topicsExperience with training and mentoringProficiency at prioritizing and multi-tasking, and thriving on balancing multiple responsibilitiesFlexibility in scheduling, and the capability to work evenings and weekends
