About Us:
DGS Retail, a leading manufacturer of point-of-purchase displays and retail store fixtures, is seeking an experienced Operations Manager for our Oceanside, CA division to oversee production operations within our in-house millwork and metal facility and coordinate with outsourced suppliers in the U.S., Mexico, and China. This role is critical to ensuring efficient production management, including detailed planning, scheduling, execution, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will drive operational efficiency, quality control, and cost-effective production across multiple shifts and facilities.
Position Overview:
The Operations Manager will lead and manage end-to-end production operations, including resource allocation, workflow optimization, and capacity planning. The role involves integrating lean manufacturing practices, automating processes where feasible, and utilizing data-driven decision-making to meet production targets. You will collaborate closely with internal teams—sales, design, engineering, graphics, and purchasing—and external partners to ensure seamless production from concept to completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Planning & Scheduling : Develop and execute detailed production schedules for multiple shifts, ensuring resource optimization and balanced workloads across the facility.
Workflow Optimization : Implement continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing principles, to enhance operational efficiency and reduce waste.
Supplier Management : Oversee relationships with domestic and international suppliers (U.S., Mexico, China) to ensure timely deliveries and seamless integration of outsourced components into production.
Inventory Control & Materials Management : Optimize inventory levels, reduce excess material, and ensure just-in-time (JIT) delivery for manufacturing requirements, balancing production demand with supply chain efficiency.
Process Automation : Identify opportunities for automation in production processes, from CNC programming to assembly, to increase throughput and reduce manual labor.
Capacity Planning & Utilization : Lead efforts in capacity planning by assessing production capability, forecasting demand, and ensuring facility and workforce are aligned with production needs.
Quality Control:
Implement rigorous quality management systems (QMS) to maintain product standards, conduct root cause analyses for any production issues, and oversee corrective actions.
Cost Management : Monitor production budgets, analyze cost drivers, and implement cost-saving initiatives to meet financial targets while maintaining high production quality.
Equipment Maintenance & Planning : Manage ongoing equipment maintenance and oversee planning for new capital investments to increase productivity and reduce downtime.
Data Analysis & Reporting : Leverage ERP systems and production data to monitor KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), assess production trends, and make informed operational decisions.
Health & Safety Compliance : Ensure the facility adheres to OSHA and other regulatory requirements, promoting a safe work environment.
Team Development & Leadership : Mentor and develop the production team, driving a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Interdepartmental Liaison : Serve as a key point of contact for all departments communications regarding production timelines, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded.
Qualifications:
10-15 years of experience in a manufacturing production management role, preferably within a millwork or retail fixture manufacturing environment.
Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in production planning, workflow management, and lean manufacturing.
Proven experience with ERP systems for production scheduling, inventory control, and data analysis.
Strong leadership skills, with experience managing large teams in a high-volume, multi-shift environment.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
In-depth knowledge of supply chain logistics, inventory optimization, and cost control strategies.
High proficiency in equipment maintenance planning and capital project management.
Strong communication and project management skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple departments and functions.
Experience with international suppliers and managing outsourced production processes.
Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations in a manufacturing setting.
