is responsible for the leadership and achievement of operational goals and objectives for an assigned department on terminal. They ensure high levels of safety, productivity, customer service and efficiency from assigned management personnel. The incumbent will provide guidance, delegate authority and hold their managers accountable for department and terminal goals ensuring overall terminal success with team values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Leads and manages a team of front line managers in the daily planning and execution of daily operations of assigned functional areas within the Terminal (Marine, Rail, Yard, Gate), ensuring that productivity, safety, and efficiency standards are met.

Manage team performance to meet or exceed established productivity, safety, and service targets.

Plan, monitor, appraise and manage subordinate performance.

Models thru their actions the Company’s mission, vision, and values.

Develop subordinate leadership team through mentoring, coaching and training to enable an organizational perspective as well as promoting optimal results within the multifunctions of the operation.

Develops and maintains positive customer and port relations by understanding customer needs, terms and conditions of contracts, developing plans to meet those needs.

Maintains positive relations with workforce and union officials through formal and informal meetings with the workforce, regular policy communication with staff, and maintaining a thorough knowledge of contracts and company policy.

Provides a high level of support and commitment to Safety values by leading by example, participating and enforcing area accident prevention/safety programs and procedures and providing input to the programs.

Leads Process Improvement initiatives by addressing current operational issues and supporting appropriate solutions for improvement on a regular basis.

Ensures that all company policies, procedures and controls are understood and followed and that reports are completed accurately, submitted on time to appropriate stakeholders.

Works closely with the Terminal Maintenance and Repair Management to ensure that gear and equipment are available and maintained at efficient and safe levels.

Attend required safety trainings and meetings; follow all safety and health guidelines, standards, practices, policies, and procedures; and actively participate in the Husky’s Emergency Preparedness program and activities.

Education:

High school Diploma or GED required.

BS/BA degree in Marine Administration, Logistics and Supply Chain, Operations Management, or equivalent experience working in Terminal Operations Leadership preferred.

Related experience:

Minimum 5 years experience managing longshore workforce with extensive knowledge of union contracts and employment and labor laws.

Preferred experience managing direct reports.

Required Competencies:

Demonstrated capacity to lead cultural change initiatives, including experience interacting with union representation, customers and various levels of management.

Ability to coach and mentor team.

Requires strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.

Requires ability to investigate and analyze results.

Requires problem solving skills to respond quickly and effectively to operational issues.

Requires ability to analyze and extract data in order to set direction and make business decisions.

Technical Skills:To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:

Knowledge of terminal, stevedore and vessel operations and equipment, physical and security procedures.

Must have extensive working knowledge of terminal operating systems, equipment and work flow.

Thorough knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.

Must have basic accounting, problem solving, goal setting and business applications understanding.

The ability to analyze collective bargaining agreements and interpretation of intent, spirit, and terms of contract to apply on the job safety standards.

Required Credentials:

Obtain and Maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) issued by the Department of Homeland Security.

Valid US Driver’s License.
