This individual reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the Museum’s senior management team.Organizational SummaryThe New Haven Museum is a vibrant center for exploring the people, places, events, and ideas that have shaped and defined the Elm City and its surrounding region. Founded in 1862 as the New Haven Colony Historical Society to preserve the history and traditions of the Greater New Haven region, the New Haven Museum stimulates inquiry and fosters appreciation of the history and heritage of its locale. The Museum’s collections date to the early years of New Haven and include more than 10,000 decorative and fine art objects and artifacts, an extensive photographic archive (100,000+ prints, negatives, film), and the holdings of the Whitney Library, which exceed 30,000 volumes and 350 manuscript collections, as well as architectural drawings, maps, broadsides, newspapers, and other items. Exhibitions, lectures, events, and publications bring 375 years of New Haven history. With an operating budget of $1.5M, 8 full-time and 6 part-time/seasonal staff, the museum serves over 10,000 visitors annually. The Museum is the steward of two historic buildings: its 1930 Colonial Revival-style headquarters in downtown New Haven, and the historic c.1780 Pardee-Morris House, which is open seasonally on the CT shoreline in the community of Morris Cove.Job SummaryThe New Haven Museum’s Finance and Business Manager will manage the financial operations, payroll, benefits, retail shop, and event rentals.Salary Range:

$65,000 - $75,000Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Manage the day-to-day operation of the museum finances including accounts payable and receivable, customer and vendor accounts, bank records, deposits and reconciliations, Paypal account, credit card processing, and reconciliation.Work with auditors for tax and financial reporting requirements including the annual audit, preparing form 1099, filing reports with government agencies, and ensuring compliance with regulations and laws.Generate financial reports for the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and the Board, and serve as liaison to the Board treasurer.Manage the day-to-day operation of payroll including record keeping, time sheets, and reporting staff hours to the payroll company.Manage grant financial information including files, tracking income and expenses, preparing reports, and serving as fiscal agent for the museum.Manage museum rental activities and oversee and schedule museum event staff.Manage the retail shop including merchandise purchase and inventory, supplies, accounts payable, shipping, and vendors.Manage membership acknowledgement and renewal.General understanding of Quickbooks, Windows OS, Microsoft applications, CRMs, Google apps, and cloud-based computing.Serve as volunteer program liaison to the staff, including prospective volunteer interviews and communications.Manage human resources and administration including compensation and benefits, performance evaluation, training, and recruiting, in accordance with state and federal laws.Support the Executive Director in Board, office, and staff operations.Requirements:Strong understanding of accounting, finance, and management principles.A minimum of five years of experience in financial management.In-depth knowledge of accounting software, corporate principles, and financial analysis.Knowledge of human resource benefits, recruiting, and training.High level of efficiency and accuracy.Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.An analytical mind with good organizational skills.To Apply:Please send a cover letter and résumé to
