Registrar's OfficePosition SummaryThe International Student Advisor and Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring F-1 non-immigrant students are compliant with federal regulations and university policies. They also provide immigration, academic, social, career, and general advising and support to our international students throughout their time at MSU Denver.This position works closely with the Assistant Registrar - ISS.Job Description40% - International Student (F-1) Advising and ReportingServe as a designated school official (DSO) - Issue, update, verify, manage, review, and maintain I-20 data in the SEVIS system in a manner consistent with federal regulations.Establish, update, and track student and ISS team files continuously, accurately, and appropriately.Proactively assist/advise F-1 international students with maintaining their student status and compliance requirements.Advise, authorize, and provide students with status-related requirements, options, benefits, petitions, and applications for, but not limited to, travel, reduced course load requests, change of status, medical leave, employment authorizations, SSNs, and institutional transfers.Communicate accurate compliance-related information to international students and other university partners and staff (primarily admissions and academic advisors).Stay updated on, and serve as a resource for, requirements and regulatory changes regarding international student laws and procedures, and world events that could impact students.Process terminations when a student is in clear violation of institutional policies and federal regulations (must be able to enforce rules and deliver "bad news" when necessary).40% - International Student Support and RetentionPromptly respond to International Student Support emails and phone communications.Lead/co-lead, conduct, support, and/or attend pre-arrival workshops, new student orientation, ceremonies, trainings, luncheons, and events/activities.Provide support services or connect students to resources for various personal, social, academic, cultural, financial, tax-related, and any other issues that may impact students' success.Conduct regular student record audits.Meet with students (online and in-person).Advocate in matters related to grievances, grading issues, tuition appeals, and special financial arrangements (often by writing, verifying, stamping/signing, reviewing, or acting as a liaison).Monitor new student communications and assist International Admissions with I-20 issuance and document review.Help international students navigate and integrate into American life.20% - OtherSupport other individuals on the records and registration team and the Registrar's office, including student employees. This requires assisting with inquiries at the front counter and promptly responding to emails, chats, and walk-in questions.Collaborate in social media content creation.Eager to cross-train and collaborate with others.Collaborate with Assistant Registrar- ISS with various projects.Able to handle difficult situations in a professional manner.Attend trainings, workshops, and professional development opportunities.Required QualificationsMust be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident (Per DSO Requirements).Experience at an institution of higher education.Experience working with students/serving students.Must be comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a shared space.Important Note:

required qualifications.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree.Experience working with international students, data, or advising in a collegiate setting, SEVIS.Familiarity with F-1 visa regulations.Experience as DSO.Work HoursFull-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt.Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.Evenings and weekend work: Rarely.Hybrid schedule (on-campus and remote) available for this position.Travel: Rarely.Salary for AnnouncementThe minimum of the pay range for this position is $41,200. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $47,300 - $51,500. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. Additionally, Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage.
