Assistant Marine Technical SuperintendentPreferred Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in marine engineering or a related field; or a combination of post-high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.EXPERIENCE:

2 or more years experience sailing as a USCG Licensed Engineer on commercial vessels and an understanding of engine room operations.TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:

Knowledge of diesel engine maintenance and general ship repairs.COMPETENCIES:

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external business partners; Ability to function effectively with, or as part of a team; Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously while meeting assigned deadlines; Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills; Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment; Ability to prepare clear and concise documents, including, but not limited to reports, procedures, correspondences and other written materials.Must be able to work within a shipboard environment which includes crouching and stooping to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time.Responsibilities

SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting in the coordination and overseeing the maintenance, repair and safe operations of all the engineering needs for assigned vessels and equipment.Assist as needed during vessel dry dock periods. Assist with the development of budgets and schedules, contractor selection, quality assurance and contract management while continually interfacing with regulatory agencies, design groups and shipyards.Monitor repairs or new construction actions when carrying out repair activity. Make sure all applicable regulatory documentation for vessels are kept current and periodic inspections are accomplished. Ensure in-house and third party inspections, repairs, maintenance and record keeping is performed on a regular basis. Manage within the company ISM policy, vessel operating manual, as well as ensure the Class Society rules are within guidelines.
