Position Summary

This position plans, organizes, directs and runs optimum day-to-day operations for the manufacturing plant including ensuring safe operations, meeting budgets, scheduling, planning, and instilling a team spirit among employees. The Plant Manager is responsible for production rates, project management, coordination with other departments, enforcing budget adherence and safety performance, and meeting corporate requirements for quality, cost, production rates, and other metrics.

Essential Job Functions

Directs production of overall operations of plant; understands manufacturing process

Develops and deploys manufacturing processes focused on quality and continuous improvement

Implements plant safety guidelines to meet OSHA and PSM requirements; ensures production processes meet safety standards

Designs and implements policies and procedures for plant operations productivity, quality and cost effectiveness; adheres to said policies and procedures

Monitors daily operations; triggers corrective actions as required

Utilizes multiple metrics to review production performance and overall productivity; adjusts processes, procedures, or other production methodologies as required to ensure efficient, cost effective, and quality production; sets performance targets to achieve production goals

Collects and reviews data to reduce inefficiencies and waste; analyzes data and creates reports to present to executives proposing process improvements; strives for continuous improvement in all areas

Analyzes production performance using production data; identifies bottlenecks and other issues; identifies problems before becoming significant; remedies production performance issues using appropriate resources

Manages and coaches direct reports including establishing and following performance of staff; initiates and inspires team spirit; understands work required for each position

Directs development and implementation of training programs; oversees training of employees

Meets all environmental, health, safety, and security regulations and standards; stays current on all regulations and standards; ensures staff follow all requirements

Thinks and acts strategically; considers long term consequences of today’s actions; strives for short term and long term gains

Reduces waste where necessary; establishes production schedules; sets quality standards; adjusts production rates, processes, etc. as required

Coordinates all daily activities; ensures proper and timely maintenance; manages maintenance costs; manages asset maintenance

Stays up to date with latest production management best practices and concepts

Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety at all times; participates in and/or leads safety teams or projects as appropriate

Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position

Experience & KSA’s Required

Minimum of 10 years’ operations leadership experience in petrochemical plant environment

At least 15 years of experience in petrochemical company; technical expertise

Proven managerial skills; knowledge of leadership principles

Knowledge of business standards and methodologies including budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and basic human resources

Ability to establish, create, manage, and adhere to budgets

Strong advocate for safety and safe work practices; proven track record leading safety programs

Expertise in OSHA, PSM, and other industry standards

Team building skills; ability to work with cross functional teams; demonstrated people management skills

Proficiency in collaborative work practices; experience working with diverse groups

Accountable for actions; willingness to take on small and large projects; track record of successes

Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments

Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position and at Company

Fluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization

Education Requirement

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Six Sigma or other lean manufacturing certification highly desirable

This position requires an employee to be exposed to outside elements as well as indoor plant and control room environments. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100°+ and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 0° in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee will enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. Loud sounds and vibrations will be experienced at times. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk (sometimes over long distances), crawl, sit, speak, and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee will be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee will be required to climb ladders and towers or tanks up to 330’ in height. The employee will be required to enter confined spaces and crawl under rail cars or trucks. The employee will lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to travel by car or other modes of ground transportation.
