Job Summary
The Purchasing Manager will be accountable for managing the Purchasing Function at the enterprise level. The Manager will have a deep discipline-specific knowledge/experience and the ability to manage Purchasing resources across multiple locations. This role is a hands-on leadership position, requiring the ability to complete tasks as an individual contributor as well as to coordinate work assignments given to others in order to accomplish business goals.
The Purchasing Manager will coordinate and lead the Transactional Purchasing processes, policy, and procedure development for the US and CAN through direct management of the Purchasing Specialists and Coordinators. Work activities will involve strategic communication with functional and business leaders. The Manager will function as an enterprise-level resource in facilitating process improvement activities using lean tools, concepts, and techniques.
Essential Job Functions
Serve as the enterprise Transactional Purchasing process owner
Identify barriers to strategic business goals and proactively put counter-measures and process improvement initiatives in place to enable business growth.
Counsel business leaders as required to ensure legal/regulatory compliance and positive business outcomes.
Delegate work assignments and responsibility to Purchasing team members in order to build bench strength and functional capability.
Proactively utilize available resources to ensure that strategic organizational goals are met.
Maintain and assist in development of key metrics surrounding transactional purchasing resource utilization and efficiency
Perform as an enterprise-level resource for strategic process improvement event facilitation.
Maintain process documentation and provide training materials that allow others to administer process with limited direction.
Lead/facilitate process improvement activities utilizing lean tools and techniques.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies, the Code of Conduct, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications and Competencies
Demonstrated knowledge of processes, regulatory and legal requirements in all areas of purchasing discipline
Demonstrated ability to strategically anticipate business needs/direction and build the required purchasing capability and processes
Demonstrated experience implementing strategic enterprise-level solutions within the purchasing function
Strong negotiation skills
Excellent communication skills working with supervisors, peers, subordinates, as well as outside vendors
Ability to handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent combination of education and experience
A minimum of ten years of progressive business experience
A minimum of three years of purchasing leadership experience
One or more purchasing-related certifications are preferred
Lean, six sigma, or quality systems certification is preferred
Travel
Employee must be able to travel 15-20% of the time.
