The Operations Supervisor at the Western Railroad will be responsible for daily inbound and outbound train operations.Job Responsibilities

Abide by Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) guidelinesMust be able to appropriately test and evaluate the knowledge and skills of locomotive engineersSupervise train movements and any employees connected with that movementMaintain locomotives; inspect machinery, order parts, coordinate with contractors, supervise and participate in mechanical and electrical repairsServe as train dispatcherAssist in interpreting new FRA regulations and in developing operating rulesAssist in the implementation of the railroad's Locomotive Engineer Certification Program by serving as Designated Supervisor of Locomotive Engineers and conducting necessary testing and supervision required by that positionAssist in planning daily and weekly work plans regarding the scheduling of trains and maintenance workComplete records associated with railroad trains and switchingTrain new employees in the proper methods of performing the tasks of conductor and locomotive engineerEnsure compliance with Federal Railroad Administration, Railroad Operating and Safety Rules, and other applicable Federal, State, County, or City rules, ordinances, regulations, and standardsAssist in preparing railroad operating budget and make recommendations in securing outside contractors for locomotive maintenance and inspectionAdhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on plant groundsMeet or exceed company safety standardsPerform other job responsibilities as assigned by managementQualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide the followingThree (3) years of experience in railroad operations and railroad track maintenanceMust be certified as a locomotive engineer under a Certification Program approved by the Federal Railroad AdministrationKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration regulationsConsiderable knowledge of the principles and practices with the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, schedule, and execute railroad train and switching operationsSkill in operating and conducting a railroad locomotive and train using proper train handling methods and techniquesWorking Conditions

Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoorsMust wear protective equipment while at the locationPhysical Requirements

Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degreeHeavy Work-Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objectsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipmentMust be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controlsLegal Notices
