Job Description Summary:

The Associate Provost for Academic Programs reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as the Provost’s chief advisor on academic programs, assessment, and student success. This role is pivotal in representing the Provost on academic matters related to curriculum development, WASC accreditation, and program-specific accreditation. Central to the Associate Provost’s responsibilities is the development and maintenance of high-quality academic programs that align with the institution’s mission, goals, and external accreditation standards. The Associate Provost works closely with deans, department chairs, faculty, and other university stakeholders to enhance the quality and effectiveness of academic offerings and ensure continuous improvement in line with the institution’s strategic objectives. The Associate Provost responsibilities include oversight of academic program review, accreditation, undergraduate and graduate studies, regional campuses, faculty training around teaching and learning, academic advising, and student success initiatives. The Associate Provost plays a key role in implementing goals and objectives related to academic programming, initiatives, and special projects. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have experience in meeting the needs of a diverse student body, faculty, and staff, along with a proven record of professional integrity and fairness.

Minimum Qualifications:

Terminal academic degree from an accredited institution

7 years of experience/record of teaching, research, and service to qualify for tenured professor in one of the organization’s academic departments

10 years of leadership experience in academic administration with the proven ability to build systems and structures

10 years of experience leading an academic program as a chair, assistant/associate dean, dean, or other capacity in academic affairs

Knowledge of strategies and support programs for student success

Commitment to diversity and inclusion in all forms

Preferred Qualifications:

Understanding of the role of university libraries in advancing student success

Experience with strategic planning, policy development, curriculum development, program implementation, and disciplinary and regional accrediting bodies.

Specific Duties:

Academic Program Review and Development:

Monitor the development and effectiveness of academic programs and the general education curriculum including evaluating student learning outcomes, completion rates, and other relevant metrics.

Ensure the curricula of academic programs and general education is up-to-date, meet accreditation standards, and align with the institution’s mission/goals.

Collaborate with deans, department chairs, and faculty to ensure the curriculum remains current, innovative, and responsive to the needs of students and the job market.

Oversee the assessment of academic programs and initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with accreditation standards.

Ensure the effective implementation of academic policies and procedures, maintaining compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.

Lead accreditation efforts and reporting, including preparation for accreditation visits and the submission of required documentation.

Monitor and address trends in higher education, making recommendations for policy and program adjustments as needed.

Regional and Online Campuses (ROC):

Oversee the Regional and Online Campuses to ensure proper strategic planning around topics of program development, budget management, partnerships, student recruitment and support, and technology integration.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards as well as operational alignment between the La Verne Main Campus and the Regional and Online Campuses.

Teaching and Learning Support:

Oversee teaching and learning initiatives to promote faculty adoption of classroom technologies and responsiveness to shifting trends in higher education.

Works closely with Institutional Research to ensure faculty training, support, and coordination around academic program review.

Supervision of student success initiatives around tutoring support, student services, and other academic support interventions.

Oversee student appeals process and decisions.

Work closely with Registrar Office to align the academic calendar, curriculum and catalog changes as well as reviewing policy and ensuring accuracy and accessibility of data.
