Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:This position is responsible for providing management in the overall management, coordination, and education activities associated with Emergency Preparedness (EP) and hazardous materials (HAZMAT). Maintains knowledge and expertise in EP and HAZMAT programs and policies. Manages the South Texas Health System (STHS) planning and implementation of EP drills and exercises with the STHS, city, county, regional, and state representatives. Maintains and updates resource materials associated with Emergency Operations Plan(s) and Waste Management Plan(s) to ensure that they adhere to any local, state, and federal regulations. Manages the activities of the Emergency Preparedness Subcommittee; supports the implementation & ongoing education of The Joint Commission Emergency Management Standards, National Incident Management System (NIMS), National Response Plan (NR), and the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).Maintains compliance with applicable regulatory agency requirements, including The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and Local agencies, The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:Maintain competency to operate office machines and system applications.Basic Business SkillsTime ManagementWell OrganizedUse of quality improvement tools and methods preferred.Knowledgeable with Joint Commission Emergency Management standardsKnowledgeable with Joint Commission Hazardous Materials and Waste standardsPrevious work history in a management position preferredMust demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training, and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.EDUCATION / LICENSURE:Associates Degree in a related field or 8 years of experience in emergency management in an acute care setting in lieu of a degree required.Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physiciansMust have Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification.EEO Statement:All UHS subsidiaries are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates.
