Position Summary:

The position of Head Track & Field/Schrader Athletic Center Director is primarily responsible for the instruction and development of all student-athletes in accordance with NAIA, university and department guidelines. The position will also include supervisory responsibilities for the Schrader Athletic Center.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year institution, Master’s preferred.

Successful coaching experience at the college or high-school level.

Must have a clear understanding of and be committed to the NAIA philosophy and the role of athletics within the university’s mission.

Must have appropriate coaching licenses and necessary certifications for the designated sport.

Strong leadership skills to motivate and develop athletes.

Must be able to communicate with other coaches, players, parents and organization members.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Provides instruction to student-athletes on fundamentals, performance, and strategy necessary for competition at the NAIA level.

Organizes and conducts practice sessions, consistent with NAIA model.

Responsible for developing training rules and conduct of athletes.

Attends professional meetings, clinics, workshops, etc.

Manages and maintains the program’s operating and scholarship budgets.

Recruits qualified student-athletes.

Hire and mentor assistant coach.

Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.

Develop season plans for both varsity teams consistent with best practices for NAIA.

Works with the Director of Sports Information regarding publicity and promotion of his/her team.

Furnishes information regarding team roster for eligibility when needed.

Engages teams/athletes in community service projects.

Helps develop policies/procedures that accomplish team, department and university goals.

Helps develop policies that minimize university liability.

Serves as a contributing member to various committees as assigned.

Demonstrates professionalism and appropriate coaching with all athletes.

Provides articulation, advocacy and problem resolution for student-athletes.

Adheres to university policies and procedures.

Assists with athletic department fundraising initiatives including annual Booster Club expectations.

Maintains player and team records.

Facilitates dispute resolution within the team structure to improve teamwork.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Athletics.

Additional Job Duties & Responsibilities - Schrader Athletic Center:

Hire and supervise staff for the facility.

Provide for ongoing maintenance of facility and its operation.

Maintain professional standards for facility maintenance and upkeep.

Provide opportunities for university community and all constituents for facility usage.

Work with athletic director for athletic team use for practice and competition.

Collaborate with university community for facility use.

Assist with facility rental and usage by external constituents.

Supervisory Responsibilities:Supervision of Assistant Coach and staff of Schrader Athletics Center.

Work Hours:37.5 hours per week. Generally, Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Some nights/weekends as needed. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department.

Environmental and Working Conditions/Physical Demands and Aptitudes:Long periods of physical exertion. Work is performed inside and outside in all weather conditions. Prolonged periods of standing are required. Must have the ability to walk short distances. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Payroll Status:Exempt, salaried (teaching exemption).

Home Campus Designation:

This position is an on-ground position in Gainesville, GA.

Travel Requirements:Some travel required to team events, recruiting events, etc. Due to insurance requirements, employees operating university vehicles or performing any driving activity for Brenau purposes must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record.

Special Requirements:May be subject to pre-employment criminal history background check, random credit checks, MVR, drug screen, and criminal history checks.

Licensure Requirements:If the position you are applying for necessitates that you hold a professional degree, license, or certification, then proof of such professional degree, license, or certification must be provided in addition to this application for Brenau University to consider your application for employment.
