Lake Forest High School District 115 is seeking an Assistant Director of Safety and Security.
Description:
The Assistant Director of Safety and Security regularly and directly assists the Director of Safety and Security, in a confidential capacity, in the oversight of all operations, planning, and procedures to ensure a safe and organized learning environment at Lake Forest High School. The Assistant Director schedules, supervises, and evaluates the security staff.
Salary Range:
$60,000 - $85,000 annually.
Benefits:
The district provides retirement (IMRF), life insurance, and dental and health insurance with HMO or PPO options and single or family coverage.
Status:
The Assistant Director of Safety and Security is a non-union supervisory employee exempt from FLSA overtime requirements.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Licensure (required and preferred):
High School diploma or GED, required
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice, preferred
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Security or Law Enforcement
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
Knowledge of federal and state law, as well as community ordinances
Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for the culture of the community served
Develops strong relationships based upon trust, respect, and achievement of common goals
Uses data to solve problems and teaches others to do the same
Anticipates and identifies problems in a timely manner
Proactively develops contingency plans in advance of unforeseen circumstances
Essential Functions:
Oversees the scheduling of, supervision of, and evaluation of, personnel in the security department
Coordinates regular building surveillance; checks exterior of building, grounds and parking areas to prevent vandalism, loitering and illegal activity
Monitors student activity (i.e. cafeteria, commons, safe haven spaces)
Develops and provides professional development opportunities for security officers and building personnel – work with district/building administrators to provide professional development opportunities for our teachers and staff members
Serves as a member of the Crisis Team and Facilities Team
Sets rules and regulations for lock – up and unlocking of doors
Provides supervision and security for school day, athletic, or extracurricular functions
Manages drills and trainings such as: bus evacuations, severe weather drills, and school safety
Monitors daily bus and vehicle transportation activity
Assists with the management of large school events and athletic contests (before, during, and after school hours)
Supervises security officers and law enforcement during large school events and athletic contests
Partners to develop proactive strategies to promote school safety and reduce incidents of student misbehavior and misconduct
Works with administrators to further develop event management, off-site evacuation, and security plans in addition to chain of command procedures in the event of an emergency
Cooperates with police in events such as auto accidents, personal injury, or other appropriate situations, such as school emergencies
Maintains strong working relationship with SRO and the school community
Assists the Dean's Office and Law Enforcement in student investigations
Processes and investigates all student and faculty reports of thefts, vandalism or any other criminal or harmful act, i.e., false fire or disaster alarms, etc.
Assures that accident reports are filed
Oversees the security of summer school in the building
Meet regularly with the campus operations team including Technology Director, Director of Buildings and Grounds, Building Maintenance and Custodial Departments to collaborate on problem-solving and planning
Collaborate with shared site leaders for facility needs and logistics for building events and facility use.
Collaborate with the campus operations team on long-term space planning to maximize facility utilization
Participate in regular facilities walkthroughs with the campus operations team
Ensure compliance with building access and front-office safety protocols
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of summer school
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel materials. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
In the work environment, the employee is regularly exposed to video display and regularly works in office environmental conditions. The employee frequently works in the evenings or on weekends. The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally works with the use of a personal vehicle. The employee will have contact with the public which requires appropriate demeanor and apparel. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with regular exposure to loud environments such as: school hallways, cafeterias, and assemblies.
