The Good Samaritan Home of Quincy is looking for an Assistant Director of Food Services to join our growing team!

Full-Time, 11:30am - 8:00pm, Generally Monday-Friday, On-call weekend and holiday rotation required

Job Summary:

The primary purpose of your job position is to assist the Food Services Director in the planning, organizing, supervising, and directing the overall operations of the Dietary Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, to assure that quality, nutritional services are provided on a daily basis and that the Dietary Department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.

Responsibilities

Assure that all dietary procedures are followed in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Supervise food preparation and buffet line services at mealtime in accordance with department policies and procedures and state and federal guidelines.

Meet with dietary personnel on a regular basis and solicit advice from dietary personnel concerning department operations and asking for assistance in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of services.

Make daily rounds to assure that dietary personnel are performing required tasks and to assure that appropriate dietary procedures are being followed to meet the needs of the facility.

Participate in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of timely in-service training programs that provide instruction on how to do the job, “customer satisfaction”, and ensures a well-educated and job-orientated Dietary Department.

Ensure that dietary service work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner on a daily basis.

Ensure that all dietary personnel are knowledgeable of the resident’s rights and responsibilities concerning his or her nutritional needs.

Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.

Assume accountability for data contained in the employee handbook.

Plan and conduct employee training programs.

Schedule department work hours (including vacation and holiday schedules), and work assignments to expedite work on a daily basis.

Be responsible for making changes due to employee sickness, injury, etc. on a daily weekly schedule and communicate any problems or concerns to the food services director.

Monitor all temperatures to the Director of Food Services for review or Maintenance for correction.

Supervise food preparation, service, and sanitation.

Review complaints and concerns made by the residents and make a written or oral report to the Food Services Director.

Communicate on a daily basis with the Food Services Director for mutual awareness of any department problems and corrective action that is to be taken.

Assume responsibility for supervising the department on weekends on an on-call basis.

Counsel/discipline dietary personnel when they are not performing required tasks.

Make recommendations to the Food Services Director through written documentation for termination of an employee.

Participate in maintaining records of residents’ likes and dislikes.

Assure that a stock level of staple/non-staple food and supplies are maintained at adequate levels at all times (Production Manager only).

Assist with interviewing and selecting of prospective employees for the dietary department.

Monitor cooking procedures and techniques by all production staff on a daily basis. Give instruction and guidance to production staff as needed.

Monitor food temperature, food tasting, menu compliance of meals on a daily basis.

Responsible for placing all food purchases through approved food suppliers (Production Manager only).

Conduct a complete inventory of all food supplies purchased, all paper supplies and chemical supplies.

Participate in the selection of new food suppliers during the bid process. Provide written specifications of food items to food vendors for review.

Participate in the selection, preparation, and tasting of any new food products being sampled for the menu cycle.

Assist residents through the buffet line in the main dining area during meal service.

Process diet changes and new diets as received form nursing services.

Assume responsibility for the Dietary Department in the absence of the Food Services Director.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Food Services Director.

Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Must possess and maintain a state approved Food Service Sanitation Certificate. Dietary Manager Certificate helpful.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English in an understandable manner and be able to follow oral and written instructions.

Must be able to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.

Must possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with staff.

Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other department within the facility to assure that food service can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
