Job Summary:

Responsible for establishing and managing the weekly and monthly shipping forecast and schedule for multiple shipping locations and communicating truck load needs to the air and ground shippers. Responsible for accurately forecasting and placing daily orders to vendors of both dry ice and coolers. Responsible for overseeing Foodservice and Stores transportation.

Essential job duties include:

Coordinates load requirements to meet the shipping needs of multiple shipping locations. Approves loads for departure and oversees all load movements to final destination.

Provides monthly projection, forecast and requirements to vendors. Researches and defines dry ice weights by days/cooler size to minimize spoilage claims. Defines and orders both ice and coolers needed for multiple shipping locations.

Updates daily shipping schedule with actual data and establishes the shipping schedules according to incoming demand. Communicates schedules and coordinates dock door assignments with fulfillment centers.

Manages outbound Foodservice and Stores transportation. Works with truckload and LTL providers to gain cost efficiencies.

Provides management with reports on carrier activity, zone analysis, carrier performance, spoilage claims, dry ice usage, etc.

Monitors load movement and makes alternate plans for loads not getting into the established carrier sort facility on time. Files claims for recovery when loads are returned or damaged.

Analyzes the Consumer Direct Stores and Foodservice freight costs for maximum efficiency and recommends shipping changes. Works with small parcel carriers to maximize service levels.

Analyzes and prepares peak shipping schedules and recommends changes. Supervises peak season employees.

Schedules and communicates shipping requirements with shippers. Maintains an active working relationship with all shippers along with ice and cooler vendors.

Interviews, hires, trains and performs any necessary disciplinary actions. Conducts performance appraisals and prepares salary recommendations.

Prepares freight budgets for Consumer Direct BU freight costs. Analyzes actual expense vs. budget and prepares analysis report for monthly financial review. Provides input as needed to Stores and Foodservice to accurately forecast freight expenses.

Reviews, approves and codes freight bills for payment. Coordinates international shipping and researches requirements by country. Coordinates manifest label runs between MIS, DC and MDC.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

5-7 years logistics, supply chain management, shipping and distribution. Supervisory experience required.

Basic mathematical computation skills.

Ability to analyze and report on statistical data.

Ability to plan, organize and manage work and multiple projects with frequent interruption.

High degree of independent judgment and decision-making skills.
