The Lead Utility Specialist is to work safely by observing all safety rules, including proper utilization of lock out tag out. A Lead Utility Specialist plans, directs, and participates in repair and maintenance activities of utility systems within the facility. They also oversee the day-to-day operations of the utilities area of the plant, including ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, HVAC systems, chilled water, hot water, RO/waste water systems. This is a position held in addition to a packaging technician bid, which the associate must maintain qualification standards for.

Core Responsibilities

Safety

Knowledge and understanding of national Safety and Environmental legislation and company policy, systems, and practice relevant to Sourcing Unit and the legal responsibility placed upon individuals.

Ensure that procedures and practice adhere to safety policy and legislation.

Wear required PPE while performing all job duties.

Complete basic chemical safety training provided by EcoLab.

Must actively contribute to the safe working environment, to include the completion of SBO's.

Safe, licensed operation of powered industrial vehicles.

May be required to complete or contribute to S-EWO and associated paperwork.

Workplace Hazards

Full knowledge of workplace and hazards within it.

Utilize appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment relevant to the tasks in your area.

Work areas include conveyors, shuttles, and powered industrial vehicles.

Work areas include machines that start and stop automatically.

Quality

Knowledge of product quality and food safety procedures for all work areas.

Identifies material defects at the point of receipt and notifies appropriate personnel.

All persons shall have the responsibility to report problem(s) with regards to the FSMS to identified person(s).

Understands and adheres to color code.

Prioritizes Consumer Safety by adhering to the strict Food Safety and GMP requirements set by the company.

Operational Activities

Lead by example in the areas of Safety, GMP's, Work Ethics and Cooperation with management.

Training of the facilities technicians in proper procedures on utilities area equipment.

Communicate fully with Plant Supervision concerning breakdowns and repairs.

Make sure that all systems are running at optimum performance.

Provide feedback to management on the performance of new and existing technicians.

Develop and initiate PM's and work orders on equipment.

Tracking and ordering of spare parts inventory.

Work extensively in PSM/RMP programs and assist the PSM coordinator.

Coordinate and planning of utilities projects with contractors and the company.

Evaluate the need for overtime and assist in planning of department vacation schedules.

Experience with food processing ammonia system.

Working knowledge of HVAC refrigerant systems repair.

Qualified to prepare ammonia compressors for rebuild.

Boiler operation system qualified.

Qualified to train maintenance employees on the PSM program.

Qualified to keep PSM program up to date.

Cleaning

– Work area must be kept clean at all times.

Administration

– Conducts effective hand-over activities and records accurately events that have occurred during shift.

Administration

– Completes all required paperwork as the relevant work is performed.

Environmental

Follows proper containment and reporting procedures and escalates any environmental release.

Reduce costs due to waste and minimize impact to health, safety and the environment.

Must actively contribute to an eco-efficient environment.

Problem Solving

An awareness of how to identify, prioritize and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques.

Teamwork

Must be a good team player capable of working within a highly effective team.

World Class Manufacturing (WCM)

An awareness of how to use performance measures to identify and prioritize losses in production area.

Completes F-Tags accurately and completely.

May be required to complete or contribute to EWO and associated paperwork.

Tools and Equipment

Basic knowledge of standard and metric hand tools.

Licensed operation of required powered industrial vehicles including forklifts.

Experience with power tools such as drills and saws.

Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and SAP.
