The role of a Business Development Analyst will support the growth of Upland’s underwriting business as an operational service expert and advocate for the ongoing and developing needs of our underwriting teams.In this role, you will be expected to possess knowledge on existing business workflows as you will be an integral player in the development and prioritization of business initiatives.The Business Development Analyst will support the development of requirements for Upland’s policy forms and product enhancements, rater updates, underwriting guideline updates, reinsurance reporting and other process enhancements. In addition, the position will assist with supporting established Underwriting teams and participate in the launch of new business units.In support of the growing Upland underwriting business, you will become an operational service expert and advocate for the ongoing and developing needs of one or two underwriting teams. You will provide guidance on the existing business workflows and assist in developing and prioritizing business initiatives with a continuous improvement mindset.Duties and Responsibilities:Identify and analyze underwriting system line of business requirements, workflows, and roadblocks to improve existing processes and propose solutions to create efficienciesPerform detailed analysis on underwriting specific projects, document and report on changes needed to meet efficiencies goals, recommend potential business solutions, and ensure successful outcomes to reach successful implementationsAssist with and support QA Team with user acceptance testing for any enhancements or implementations impacting the Underwriting teamsSupport the established and proposed underwriting business processes through data analysis, identification of implementation barriers, and user acceptance testing of various systemsCreate operational reports related to new business implementation processesCoordinate with UW Operations colleagues to deliver training documentation for post project implementationDevelop, share and incorporate organizational best practices into business applicationsDiagnose problems and identify opportunities for process redesign and improvementFormulate and update departmental policies and proceduresBecome a subject matter expert on the assigned function product line of business (LOB) to ensure operational performanceDefine

requirements through interviews, workshops, surveys and existing system

documentation or proceduresAct as a

business partner to the underwriting business, actuarial and technology

teams by conducting analysis of business needs against current trends in

the market as well as predictive analysis trends and offering

recommendations based on findings.

Partner with Digital Delivery to bring these findings to fruitionPerform other duties as assignedEducation,Experience and Special Skills Required:Desired Skills / EducationMinimum of 3-5 years of related experience in business analytics or operational analytics required1-3 years of insurance experience, preferred but not requiredProven ability to create clear and detailed business requirementsStrong analytical skills with the ability to learn business processesBachelor’s degree in business administration preferred but not requiredCompetency to learn new software toolsAbility to organize and interpret dataAbility to handle multiple assignmentsSpecific Skills/Knowledge:JIRA and Confluence experience a plusExcellent organizational skillsDetail-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement and the ability to manage multiple projectsIntermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPointStrong verbal communication, presentation, facilitation and customer service skillsAbility to generate, collect, and review data; identify patterns and trends and prepare detailed analysesAbility to work independently and reliably to meet deadlines and objectives with top-level professional resultsAbility to communicate effectively with team members, provide status updates, and escalate critical issues cross-functionally in a remote environment
