Job Description - Senior Campus Design Manager - Facilities Services (24000001W0)MR15: Depending on education level and experience.OverviewThe Campus Design Manager reports to the Director of Design for Facilities Services and is responsible for managing projects on behalf of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus. This senior-level position leads the management of design efforts and coordination on all project types with a focus on major multi-million dollar capital projects for the UTK campus.This role is responsible for:Ensuring projects are designed in accordance with the Campus Master Plan.Acting as a customer-focused liaison between the University of Tennessee System - Department of Capital Projects (DCP), UTK Facility Services (UTKFS), and various UTK campus stakeholders.Reviewing design documents for compliance with various design standards.Providing input and assisting in the creation of revised or new guidelines, standards, and organizational processes.Coordinating and overseeing design feedback from UTKFS and UTK stakeholders.Determining appropriate solutions for complex design issues or concerns.Serving as a mentor to less experienced design professionals.Responsible for project budgets, schedules, and quality with a high degree of customer service.Using a high degree of creativity and latitude in decision-making.Duties and Responsibilities:Review design drawings for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable Codes and University standards.Ensure that all projects are designed in accordance with the UTK Campus Master Plan, and compliance with the mission and vision of the University.Manage the project schedule and budget in coordination with various stakeholders such as the Department of Capital Projects.Liaise with various departments to address specific concerns related to the projects.Report on the status of active projects and present design considerations and constraints to UTK Leadership and stakeholders.Complete feasibility studies for potential short and long-term projects.Review submittals, substitution requests, RFIs, change orders, and other related construction documents as needed to coordinate with design intent.Perform site observations of ongoing construction projects; prepare written documentation of observations; coordinate actionable items with appropriate parties.Qualifications:Registered Architect or Engineer in Tennessee, or the ability to be licensed within 3 months.Bachelor’s degree and licensure in a relevant field (such as architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, or interior architecture) with a minimum of ten years of experience in the construction or design field. Minimum of 7 years as Registered Architect or Engineer with significant responsibility in design administration.Valid Tennessee Driver’s License.Skills:Strong written and oral communication skills.Knowledge of good architectural and engineering practices.Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse trades and groups of people.Wide-ranging knowledge of building systems, components, and construction methods.Knowledge of building codes and industry standards.Knowledge of construction cost estimation.Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to resolve problems quickly and effectively.Professionally licensed.Ability to influence areas outside the technical area of expertise positively and make actionable contributions to the team.Attributes:Successful candidates must be capable of operating independently while being skilled at working with others. Must have good oral and written communication skills and be capable of translating complex ideas to others of varying technical levels and personality types. Must be thorough, decisive, and objective.
