SUA 2 | Assistant Director of Gender and Sexuality

The Assistant Director for Gender and Sexuality is a 12-month position that serves as a member of the Office for Inclusive Excellence (OIE). Reporting to the Director of OIE within the division of Student Affairs, the incumbent will coordinate, plan, and assess programs and initiatives for the Women’s Center and Pride Center. They will serve as the centers’ principal advisor for developing, enhancing, and assessing the campus culture and its impact on students who identify as female, as well as students who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community.Responsibilities

Assist in developing and implementing strategic initiatives, student and campus outreach, assessment, follow-up, and programmatic opportunities for the student populations of the Women’s Center and Pride Center.Partner with academic programs, presidential commissions, student groups, the Chief Diversity Officer, and the Title IX Coordinator to serve as a resource, support, and champion for equity where female and LGBTQIA+ students may be impacted.Provide referrals to students, faculty, staff, and campus community on sexual orientation and gender-related issues.Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive array of campus-wide programming which fosters a culture of safety, equity, inclusion, and empowerment of female and LGBTQIA+ populations.Cultivate relationships and outreach opportunities to increase student, faculty, staff, and community engagement in gender identity and sexual orientation educational initiatives, policy development, and advocacy.Generate reports and provide recommendations based on student learning outcomes for programmatic initiatives related to the Women’s and Pride Centers.Provide oversight in the development of student leadership initiatives related to gender and sexual orientation and enhance student learning and development by serving as a mentor, advocate, and educator.Develop, implement, and coordinate programs and trainings in conjunction with student organizations, university departments, and community partners.Assist in the development of brochures, web pages, social media, etc. used to promote the work of the centers and OIE.Work collaboratively with various University departments, faculty, staff, and students to increase recruitment and retention efforts for LGBTQIA+ students.Serve as an ex-officio member of the President’s Commission on Women and The President’s Commission on Gender Identity & Expression and Sexual Orientation (GIESO).Participate in professional development opportunities and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Office for Inclusive Excellence.Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degreeTwo years of experience working in education, counseling, psychology, or a related field.Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.Successful performance in an interview/presentation and pass a criminal background check.Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education, Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related fieldExperience working with the LGBTQIA+ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQIA+ individualsProfessional experience working with a diverse student populationDemonstrated knowledge of issues surrounding women, gender inequality, and gender identityApplication Information
